PRESS RELEASE
Caltrans Seeking Public Comment on U.S. Highway 395
Lone Pine Sidewalk Project
LONE PINE – Caltrans District 9 is seeking public comment on its proposed Lone Pine Sidewalk Project from now until Monday, September 6, 2021.
The project, which is currently in the environmental approval stages, will add sidewalks to both sides of U.S. Highway 395 from Teya Road to Inyo Street (Southern Segment) It will also add sidewalk to the northbound side of the highway between E. Begole Street and E. Lubken Avenue (Northern Segment).
Currently, these stretches of U.S. Highway 395 either lack sidewalks or feature sidewalks that do not comply with ADA standards. Such facilities are needed to enhance safety, improve mobility, and provide for alternative modes of transport. Along with ADA compliant sidewalk work, other features of this project include ADA compliant curb ramps, a new pedestrian crossing on the southern end of the project, and the replacement of drainage inlets. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2023-24 with an estimated cost of $6 million.
Caltrans is particularly interested in the point of view of pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, drivers, residents, or business owners who live within Lone Pine and throughout the proposed project area.
For more information, the Lone Pine Sidewalk Story Map can be found on the Caltrans District 9 website on the main page under District 9 Current Projects and https://tinyurl.com/xuc2wjjx. Please submit your formal comments by email to [email protected].
