California Senate to Adjourn in Memory of  Castle Peak Avalanche Victims

 

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (R-Jackson) will rise on the Senate floor to request that the California State Senate adjourn its session in memory of the nine individuals who tragically died in the February 17, 2026, avalanche near Castle Peak in the Sierra Nevada.

 

This Adjournment in Memory (AIM) tribute will occur during the Senate’s floor session on Thursday, March 5, 2026. Family members and friends of the deceased are invited to attend as guests in the Senate gallery.

 

This event marks California’s deadliest recorded avalanche, claiming lives from diverse communities across California, Nevada, and Idaho. Senator Alvarado-Gil will deliver brief remarks honoring the lives, passions for the outdoors, and legacies of those lost from her district before moving to adjourn the session in memory of the nine victims.

 

Below are the nine victims who will be honored: 

 

·    Andrew Alissandratos, 34, of Verdi, Nevada

·    Carrie Atkin, 46, of Soda Springs, California

·    Nicole “Niki” Choo, 42, of South Lake Tahoe, California

·    Lizabeth “Liz” Clabaugh, 52, of Boise, Idaho

·    Michael Henry, 30, of Truckee, California

·    Danielle Keatley, 44, of Soda Springs and Larkspur, California

·    Kate Morse, 45, of Soda Springs and Tiburon, California

·    Caroline Sekar, 45, of Soda Springs and San Francisco, California

·    Katherine Vitt, 43, of Greenbrae, California

 

The tribute will be formally recorded in the Senate Daily Journal.
