📰 CalFresh Financial Support in Mono County
Mono County and the Town of Mammoth Lakes have partnered to provide $200,000 in local relief funding to augment food assistance for residents impacted by an ongoing national delay in Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. SNAP is known locally as CalFresh.
💰 Funding Details
- Mono County initially voted to approve $100,000 in local funding.
- The Town of Mammoth Lakes matched those funds, creating a combined local relief effort of $200,000.
🎯 How the Funding Will Be Used
The funding will be used to establish two programs:
- A Grocery Card Program: One-time prepaid grocery store cards will be distributed to current CalFresh recipients.
- Health and Human Services Food Pantry Boost: The funds will be used to boost the Food Pantry for CalFresh recipients.
👥 Residents Impacted
Approximately 500 households (representing 768 residents) in Mono County rely on CalFresh benefits monthly. These households include:
- 68% are families with children.
- 22% include elderly or disabled members.
- 38% are working families.

Mono County residents currently receiving CalFresh benefits can contact Mono County Health and Human Services at (760) 924-1770 to obtain grocery store cards and food pantry items. This support is intended to supplement food needs and reduce financial stress during the temporary benefits disruption.
