The broncos Golf Team traveled to Cal City on Wednesday April 2nd for their 5th league match of the year and the Broncos came away with a win.

Again the weather and course conditions were a factor for the Broncos, with the wind blowing 30-35mph and temperatures at 42 degrees the Broncos as well as the other 3 teams struggled.

It’s a very tough course to play right now, with maintenance equipment broke and only 2 employees to maintain the course the conditions are very poor. When you add strong winds into the mix, it makes for very golfing and scoring low very difficult. The Broncos pushed through all of this and came out on top. Posting a total team score of 474. Desert played tough and scored 485 with Cal City posting a 607 and Kern Valley scoring 647.

Leading the way for the Broncos was Robby McBride scoring an 89. I’m very impressed with Robbie’s score as injuries has sidelined him for a better part our season. This was only his 2nd match and to post a score of 89 in those conditions is impressive. Rounding out the scoring, Parker Pope continues to improve and stay consistent posting a 95. Freshmen Francesco Toscanini and Travis Cano both posted scores of 96. I was happy that we got Francesco back, but having to play a course he’s never seen before and with the issues this course brings I was happy with his play and his approach. He just went to work and focused on his game. Travis has come a long way and is improving every match. He’s been right there at the top the last 3 matches. He really hard on himself and I try to just remind him to stay focused and take his time. Freshman Zane Nicholson posted a score of 98 and Garin Pritchard scored 100.

All in all I was pleased with the outcome and scores, golf is hard enough, but add the weather and course conditions we faced, and I was happy the team didn’t just give up. As some of our counterparts did just that. All of them stayed upbeat and actually had a little fun despite the issues. It’s nice to see them interacting with the other players and finding time to just relax while playing and making friends.

The Broncos will be back at it next week, traveling again to Cal City. This will mark 3 weeks in a row we will have to play this course. The team isn’t happy about it, but again they will focus and play whatever the conditions.
