The Bronco Golf Team traveled to Cal City Wednesday for a High Desert League match and came away with the win. This marks the 3rd league win this year making the Broncos 9-0 in league and 10-1 overall.
The Broncos posted a 410 team score with Kern Valley placing 2nd with a 509, Desert finished 3rd at 576 and Cal City rounding out the team scores with a 685.
Individually for the Broncos Sophmore Francesco Toscanini had the low round for the day with a 78. Francesco continued to improve day by day and week by week. This is the 3rd straight match where he has posted scores in the 70’s. Francesco has really turned it on and I’m very hopeful it will continue as he is hitting his stride.
First year golfer and fellow sophmore August Veenker posted an impressive 79 on the day, good enough for 2nd overall. I’m so happy for August, this his first ever round under 80! For his first year playing competitive golf, August id posting some very good scores and he too is improving as the year progresses.
Senior Robbie McBride posted a 81 on the day placing 3rd, and Sophomores Reed Carpenter and Zane Nicholson each finished with an 86. Junior Abram Crall finished with a 89 to round out the scoring for the Broncos.
The Broncos competed last week at the on Monday May 9th, at the Bakersfield Christian Tournament and posted an impressive team score of 446 on a very difficult course and placing 5th overall out of 18 teams. Most of these teams we will see in the CIF playoffs and we showed we can compete and win against any of them. This was a big confidence booster for the Broncos. Again Francesco Toscanini posted the low round for the Broncos with an 82. Zane Nicholson finished with an 84 and August Veenker posted a 90.
Last Wednesday, March 11th the Broncos traveled to Edwards for a league match and won easily with a team Score of 416. Francesco posted an impressive 78 on a very difficult course and fighting the wind. August finished with an 81, Nicholson posted an 82 and McBride finished with an 85.
I’m very pleased with the improvement and focus the team has right now. We are lowering our team score weekly and individual scores are improving as well. We have room for improvement and we expect some hiccups along the way, but right now the Broncos are showing no signs of sliding down or letting up.
The Broncos next match is Wednesday March 25th at home (League Match). This will be the Broncos first home match of the season and they are excited to finally not have to travel over 3 hours for a golf match.
