Randy Van Tassell, Asst. District Governor for Rotary District 5190 inducted new member Charles Ables at the Tuesday, March 10th,   Rotary Club meeting held at Astorga’s.  Charles’ sponsor is Dr. Leo Pisculli who feels Charles is a great addition to our club.  Dr. Pisculli brought Charles to several club meetings where Ables felt he could contribute his time helping with the club’s many community service projects, along with Rotary International’s humanitarian programs and building goodwill and peace in the world.

Charles was born in Monterey, California and raised in Carmel.  He graduated from Humboldt State University with a B.S. degree in Wildlife. He is a Law Enforcement Officer with the US Forest Service. His job brought him to Bishop a little over 1 year ago.

Charles continues in participating in his hobbies of competitive pistol shooting in two disciplines (PPC & USPSA), and is a life long horseman,  martial artist and belongs to the Bishop Gun Club and the Winnedumah #287 Masonic Lodge in Bishop.

Of course living here in our Sierra wonderland provides plenty of opportunities for Charles to pursue his interest in fishing.

When asked about anything interesting about him, Charles replied that he spent a summer in Bodie as a park aide in the summer of 2004.  Charles plays the bagpipes. His family has a history of playing the bagpipes and his Mother taught him how to play. Charles is also a student of Pipe Major Michel d’Avenas of Pebble Beach. President Pat Nahin said the club will be anxious to have him give a Scottish Highland musical performance at one of the club meetings.

Charles said he is anxious to start offering his services to the club’s many projects.   He believes in the Rotary motto “Service Above  Self.

The Rotary Club of Bishop meets every Tuesday at noon at Astorga’s Mexican Restaurant.  Visitors are welcome and lunch is $10.00.
