– Press release from the Bishop Police Department
In response to recent public concern regarding crosswalk safety in the town of Bishop, the Bishop Police Department would like to make the public aware of special enforcement on the crosswalks throughout town.
There are many marked crosswalks in the city, and it is the goal of the Bishop Police Department to make the public aware of them, to make sure pedestrians are safe, and drivers are abiding the law.
We also want to remind the public; as the weather warms up, more pedestrians will be out enjoying the warmth. Pay special attention in school zones for children walking to and from school.
The safety of the pedestrians within the city is very important; therefore, this detail and enforcement is necessary to inform drivers the severity of not yielding to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. The police department is determined to keep our local residents and travelers safe.
enough- if they were any closer , we’d be making love!
Enoughalready you must be blind sir. Bpd is all over Main Street hundreds of times a day. All day and night 7 days a week.

Bishop is a known speed trap. It’s due to our CHP new recruits, not Bishop PD.
Crosswalk safety is a two way street. Everybody needs to be aware. I would like to see the Bishop PD crack down on the semi-trucks barreling down Main St. Not enough tickets being handed out to repeat offenders. Main Street in Bishop should be known as a crawl not a… Read more »
Yeah, about like they will crack down on bicycles running stop lights/signs
I wonder if the Bishop PD are going to instruct the school age children in how to use a crosswalk? Every day at lunch time high school kids constantly bolt out in front of vehicles and are not in the crosswalks. Literally, last week I watched some dumb kid bolt… Read more »
It seems appropriate that Bishop Police also point out that it’s a “two-way street”, that is, pedestrians could exercise a sense of courtesy and manners rather than an arrogant sense of entitlement …
How about the rest of the story that pedestrians need to keep themselves safe by not stepping in front of cars at the last moment or texting or looking down while crossing. It’s called shared responsibility.
It’s a typical govt agency public safety message.
Telling us how dumb we are and slow down cause it’s getting warm out there. Thank you officer
