The Bishop Bronco Wrestling Team hosted the Desert Scorpions last Wednesday in High Desert League action, with nine Broncos competing across multiple weight classes.

The lineup featured three freshmen—Talon Romero and Mikey Valle at 113 pounds, and Jay Mena at 120. Sophomore Gabe Montoya wrestled at 132 pounds. Juniors included Jaidyn McKellips at 144 and both Messi Trejo and Daxen Svacina at 190 pounds. Seniors Kano Graves at 175 and Mikey Trejo at 165 rounded out the roster.

The meet opened with a JV match, followed by five dual matches and six exhibition bouts. Every contest ended in either a Bronco pin or a technical fall—a margin of at least 15 points—secured in the first or second period.

Daxen Svacina kicked off the dual with what became the fastest pin of the night at just 56 seconds. Messi Trejo followed with a pin in 2:50. Jay Mena added a pin in 3:18, and Gabe Montoya secured one in 2:41. Mikey Trejo earned a pin in 1:28, and the final dual match saw Kano Graves claim a technical fall in only 53 seconds.

Exhibition action began with Messi Trejo earning a technical fall in 1:55, followed by Svacina’s second pin of the evening in 3:18. Talon Romero pinned his opponent in 3:25, Jaidyn McKellips added a pin in 1:22, and Mikey Trejo collected his second pin in 1:45. The night concluded with Mikey Valle earning a pin in just 1:01.

Head Coach Brady Howell praised the team’s performance, saying, “We had an impressive showing and I am very pleased with how everyone did. All the hard work in the wrestling room is starting to pay off.”

The Broncos’ next meet is January 28 at Kern Valley—the final dual meet of the season and the last time Bishop will face Kern Valley before their departure from the High Desert League.
