Bishop attorney Taylor Fitzmaurice announced today that she is running for Judge of the Inyo County Superior Court, citing a commitment to fairness, independence, and public trust in the judicial system.

“For courts to function properly, people must have confidence that decisions are made based on the law — not bias, politics, or personal connections,” Fitzmaurice said. “A judge serves all people. I am running to ensure that every person who enters our courthouse is treated with impartiality, dignity, and respect.”

Extensive Legal Experience

Fitzmaurice is a seasoned attorney with more than three decades of legal experience and a reputation for careful preparation and deep knowledge of the law. She is a graduate of American University Washington College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor Summa Cum Laude, and UCLA, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She has been a member of the State Bar of California since 1991.

Rather than narrowing her practice to a single specialty, Fitzmaurice has spent her career handling a wide range of legal matters for local families, businesses, and public entities, often stepping in where legal resources were limited. Her experience includes complex civil, business, property, criminal, municipal, and public law matters, as well as sensitive family law, juvenile dependency, and conservatorship cases—experience that reflects the diverse caseload of a rural Superior Court judge.

Deep Roots in Inyo County

After working in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Ventura County, Fitzmaurice chose to move to the Eastern Sierra to raise her three children and build a successful law practice.

“The Eastern Sierra isn’t just where I practice law — it is my home and my community,” Fitzmaurice said. “Every case represents real people and real consequences.”

Her deep roots in Inyo County shape her judicial philosophy: that the law must serve the people it governs.

Judicial Philosophy

“I have spent my career standing beside people on some of the most difficult days of their lives,” Fitzmaurice said. “True justice requires a deep knowledge of the law, listening with patience, ruling with impartiality, and treating every person—regardless of background—with dignity and respect. As a judge, I will bring fairness, independence, and thoughtful decision-making to every case.”

Fitzmaurice believes a competent and compassionate judge is one who can make reasoned decisions based on the law, efficiently manage cases, avoid unnecessary delays, and ensure courtroom proceedings are respectful and fair, recognizing that every ruling impacts real people and families.

With her extensive legal experience, Fitzmaurice is one of the most experienced attorneys to seek this seat, prepared to apply the law fairly, listen carefully, and uphold the trust and integrity of Inyo County courts.
