Previous release

On June 3, 2017, at approximately 1823 hours, CHP Officer Rabe   attempted to stop a black Chrysler 300 sedan traveling n/b on US-395 south of Warm Springs Rd. for 115 MPH.

The vehicle continued at high speed, and a pursuit ensued.  After entering the city limits of Bishop at high rate of speed, Officer Rabe discontinued the pursuit due to risk to the public in a high vehicle and pedestrian traffic area.

A second CHP unit, Officer Sweet, was positioned on the north end of Bishop.  Officer Sweet saw the vehicle n/b on US-395 at Brockman Lane traveling 81 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone.

Officer Sweet attempted to stop the vehicle and another pursuit was initiated.  Sergeant Lomenick, #17673, joined the pursuit and became the secondary unit.

The vehicle continued n/b for approximately 18 miles with speeds reaching approximately 115 MPH.

The suspect made a left across s/b US-395 and began traveling w/b on Forest Service Road 5S105 where he immediately lost control of the vehicle and went airborne, disabling his vehicle.

The driver subsequently took foot bail in a westerly direction and was pursued on foot by CHP officers.

Both Mono County Sheriffs and Inyo County Sheriffs also responded to the scene and assisted with a perimeter and subsequent sweep of the area in an attempt to locate the driver.

Despite the exhaustive search efforts in the area by all agencies, the driver remains at large.

Officer Sweet is the investigating officer and has several leads to the identity of the driver.  During the foot pursuit, Officer Rabe suffered moderate injuries.  Sergeant Lomenick transported Officer Rabe to Northern Inyo Hospital were he was treated and released for his injuries.
