In Mammoth Lakes, citizens anticipate the draft Environmental Impact Statement on air service plan for Mammoth Airport.

Town officials reported that the Draft EIS will go public November 23rd. Officials will schedule an informational workshop on the EIS December 18th. An official public hearing will happen January 8th in the new year with the comment period closing January 11, 2008.

Town officials said that the Federal Aviation Administration, National Park Service, Forest Service and BLM were consulted on the draft document.

Town officials also said that any public group that would like to schedule a presentation on the reestablishment of commercial air service, should contact the Airport Project Team.

The new plan for air service would involve smaller passenger planes with flights between Los Angeles and Mammoth Airport. Part of the plans include conversion of a maintenance building into a small commerical air service terminal. Mammoth's Planning Commission has already approved the plans.

The FAA has provided funding to resurface the airport runway in two phases. There will be no change to the length or width of the runway.
