John George Beems
October 9, 1939 – November 11, 2025
John George Beems, age 86, of Bishop, California, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on November 11, 2025. He was born on October 9, 1939, in Los Angeles, California. He grew up in Glendale and moved to Bishop in 1967, where he made his home for the remainder of his life.
John was well known throughout the Eastern Sierra for his strong work ethic, love of the outdoors, and devotion to his community. He was proud to have contributed to the construction of Chair 23 on Mammoth Mountain and worked for many years at Union Carbide in Pine Creek. He also worked with the Department of Water and Power (DWP) in both Los Angeles county and Bishop. John loved spending his free time fishing at Crowley Lake, shooting at the Bishop Gun Club, and participating in events with the Eastern Sierra Muzzle Stuffers.
In his younger years, John enjoyed desert racing with the Checkers and Shamrocks motorcycle clubs and maintained a lifelong passion for motorsports and outdoor recreation. He was also an avid slow-pitch softball player, remembered fondly by his teammates on the Inyo Idiots for his humor, energy, and team spirit.
John was preceded in death by Mattie Beems, George Beems, Ruthann Beems, and Quintin Richard. He is survived by his daughter, Rene’ Norris and her husband Brock Norris, daughter Jalaine Beems, and grandchildren Lacee Norris and her husband Alex Hytrek, Caylee Norris, and Logan Richard. He also leaves behind numerous relatives and close friends who will forever remember his kindness, stories, and dedication to family.
