Kirk George Wilson

August 30, 1959 – November 2, 2025

The Owens Valley community lost one of its own on Sunday, November 2. Kirk George Wilson passed away at the age of 66.

Kirk was born in the San Fernando Valley to Lois and Earl Wilson Jr. on August 30, 1959. When he was four years old, his family relocated to Big Pine, California, and the Eastern Sierra became his lifelong home. He graduated from Big Pine High School with the class of 1977. Soon after, he married and welcomed three children, taking great pride in watching them grow and succeed in life.

He lived his life the way he coached football: with heart, humor, and a steady belief in the potential of those around him. As a high school football coach, he took pride in shaping young lives—not just in winning games. He was quick with a laugh, generous with a lesson, and had a knack for seeing a player’s potential and pushing them to be their best.

Kirk was joyful and fun-loving, but those who knew him best will remember his quiet side—thoughtful and kind. He was a loving father to his three children and a devoted grandfather who cherished making his grandchildren laugh. He found joy in exploring the rugged beauty of the Owens Valley, sharing music and laughter at concerts with friends, and volunteering to walk dogs at the Big Pine Animal Shelter. He was a skilled craftsman with a lifelong passion for woodworking, crafting pine furniture that still stands proudly in the homes of his family and friends.

In 2014, he married Olivia, and together they built a life filled with laughter, travel, and companionship. Their home was always open to family and friends, and they never hesitated to make room for one more rescue dog in need.

Kirk is survived by his beloved wife, Olivia Mijares-Wilson; his children, Trevin (Jackie), Travis, and Tiffany (Mark); his grandchildren, Ryelle, Hazel, Adelynn, and Cooper; his siblings, Robinn Sparks and Earl “Mugs” Wilson; and his first wife and friend, Christy Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois and Earl Wilson Jr.; his brother, Scott Wilson; and the baby brother the family continues to hold in memory.
