Firefighters Engage Sage Fire East of Mono Lake


Bishop, Calif., November 1, 2025 –
The Sage Fire was located and confirmed at 6:12 p.m. on Monday, October 27. The lightning caused fire is located southeast of Mono Lake, and south of Highway 120 East near Sentinel Meadow. Firefighters determined the location of the fire with a helicopter that evening and began scouting and making access the next morning. The fire is located in steep and rugged terrain and is burning in brush and timber.

Firefighters have established control lines utilizing a combination of natural features, roads and handlines to safely confine the fire to approximately 260 acres. Over the next several days, firefighters will be burning the control lines. Smoke will be present in the fire area, and visible from Mammoth Lakes, CA and Lee Vining, CA. The fire is 0% contained.

There are no forest or road closures in effect, however it is advised that OHV users and other recreationists avoid the area for the next few days.

Resources currently assigned to the incident: Approximately 96 personnel are on scene, including:

  • 1 Type 3 helicopter
  • 4 Hand crews
  • 5 Engines
  • 1 Water tender

Firefighting resources from the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management are both assisting with the incident response.

Evacuations are not issued.
