Mammoth Huskies Ski and Snowboard Teams Win State Title

The Mammoth High School Husky Varsity Ski and Snowboard Team became California/Nevada State Champions recently at the CNISSF Championships at Sierra @ Tahoe where over 300 student athletes competed from over 30 schools from the state on March 2-5. This is the first time they have won the Overall Combined title since 2022.

“This was a big win where everyone from our team contributed in their own way from the very beginning of the season,” said MHS Team Director, Connie Moyer and Snowboard Team Coach Erick Sugimura. “Everyone had a special roll to win it all from our fastest racers to those who worked as gatekeepers and binding technicians.  In other words, everyone counted to become Champions!  Some had to sacrifice not racing 100% (like our three snowboard men’s team of Rylen Nash, Grayson Hodges and Aiden Brocia) in order to finish and give us our complete team points.

“In the end at the awards, we did not know if we won and the excitement brought me to tears because this was such a team hard fought effort!” Moyer said.

Here are all of the team’s accomplishments at States:

Highlighted individual results from the team results that led the Huskies to their State Title included: Elcee Mahler and Logan Leggette who dominated the women’s snowboard field often beating all the men in both the qualifiers and the very competitive State Championships.  Leggette won state overall championships (after winning the GS event by over seven seconds!) and Mahler placed third overall (after winning the snowboard SL event). Rylen Nash placed 10th on the combined all-state team with his 10th in the GS and13th in the SL. Our men senior skiers, Tommy Lackey and Tanner Knott also dominated our South 2 Qualifiers and State Championships with Knott placing second overall (2nd in the GS and 3rd in the SL) and Lackey placing fourth overall (2nd in the SL and 7th in the GS).  Addison Koenig tied to become the all state champion (with her first place in SL and third place in the GS). Sophie McMahan placed fourth overall (with a second in the Slalom and fourth place in the GS).

After the CNISSF State Championships at Sierra @ Tahoe, seven of our MHS Ski Team Members were selected to compete at the US High School Western Region Championships.  This all-star type event held at Grand Targhee, WY, was a competition against nine other states in the Western part of the country.

More members from the Mammoth Ski Team Members were selected to represent the CA State team than any other high school in the league that included:  Addison Koenig, Norah Hinson, Sophie McMahan, Aspen Wight, Rowan Monte, Tommy Lackey and Tanner Knott.

Congratulations to all of the Mammoth Husky Ski and Snowboard Teams and many thanks to all who supported them to their victory!
