This past weekend 3/8/2025, the BUHS Track and Field team traveled to the 4th Annual Burroughs Track and Field Invitational at Cerro Coso College in Ridgecrest, CA. We competed against teams from Barstow, Cal City, Mammoth, Tehachapi, Desert Christian, Palmdale, Trona, Burroughs, Immanuel Christian, and Rosamond. This year, we had a lot of new runners and jumpers, and while not everyone medaled, we saw great improvement from practice to competition. For many of our athletes, this was their very first track meet ever.
Here are some highlights from the meet:
- Gabby Veenker (Sr) – 8th place in the Girls 200m with a time of 29.57
- Ezekiel Lundgren (Fr) – 9th place in the Boys 1600m with a time of 5:20.32 & 10th place in the Boys 800m with a time of 2:30.52
- Steven Veenker (Sr) – 10th place in the Boys 1600m with a time of 5:28.27
- Eli Buck (Jr) – 10th place in the Boys 400m with a time of 59.34
- Ruby Fisher (Jr) – 6th place in the Girls 800m with a time of 2:51.63
- Meghenna Westervelt (Sr) – 8th place in the Girls 100m Hurdles with a time of 25.75
- Brandon Walters (Fr) – 10th place in the Boys 3200m with a time of 12:17.88
- Nic Calderon (Sr) – Tied for 7th place in the Boys High Jump at 4’8″
- Soren Davis (So) – Tied for 7th place in the Boys High Jump at 4’8″
Our throws team had some challenges in the shot put but performed well in the discus:
- Joseph Lent (Sr) – 2nd place in the Boys Discus with a throw of 136’5.5″ & 10th place in the Boys Shot Put with a throw of 33’11.25″
- Layton Rossi (Sr) – 3rd place in the Boys Discus with a throw of 118’8″ & 7th place in the Boys Shot Put with a throw of 36’8.25″
- Dre Gardner (Sr) – 5th place in the Boys Discus with a throw of 114’10” & 5th place in the Boys Shot Put with a throw of 38’0.5″
- Wyatt Miears (Fr) – 6th place in the Boys Discus with a throw of 113’4″
- Darrick Cortez (Jr) – 8th place in the Boys Discus with a throw of 103’5.5″ & 9th place in the Boys Shot Put with a throw of 35’7.25″
For the second year in a row, our Boys (Weight Man) 4x100m Relay team (Layton Rossi, Wyatt Miears, Michael Spratt, and Joseph Lent) took 1st place.
