The Broncos hosted the first League match of the season on Wednesday, with Desert, Cal City, Kern Valley and the Broncos all competing. It was a very wet, cold and windy day, definitely not ideal golf conditions but the teams all wanted to play anyway. The cold conditions made it very difficult play and frozen hands and fingers made it difficult to hold onto clubs. I was extremely impressed at the resilience and determination all the players showed today by completing 18 holes of golf on a day like today!
Even with the difficult playing conditions the Broncos came out on top for their first league wins of the season. The Broncos posted a total team score of 426, with Desert coming in 2nd at 489, Cal City finished with a 580 and Kern Valley finished with a score of 688.
Leading the way individually for the Broncos was Freshman Zane Nicholson posting a 77, good enough for second overall and very impressive for his 3rd ever high school match. Garin Pritchard scored an 86, Travis Cano and Parker Pope each posting an 87, Cooper Beard finished with an 89 and Francesco Toscanini rounding out the scoring with a 92.
Again with the severe weather I am very pleased with not only the scores, but the attitudes and team spirit shown by our Broncos. They never gave up and still managed to have a little fun along the way.
The Broncos will next travel to California City next Wednesday March 12th for a league match. Then after that match, drive to Tulare and play a non league matchup vs Tulare and Tulare Western High schools on Thursday March 13th.
