Traffic Advisory for the Week of January 13, 2025
EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of January 13 – January 17.
Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.
New Traffic Impacts
Eastern Kern County
· Keene Guardrail Repair – On State Route 58 from the Broome Road Overcrossing to Keene Road, the outside westbound lane will be closed while Caltrans maintenance crews repair guardrail. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
· Mojave Sign Installations – On State Route 58, there will be shoulder closures at two locations for sign installations. Eastbound work will happen near Exit 172. Westbound work will happen just east of Hyundai-Kia Boulevard. Work is scheduled Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am to 4:30 pm.
· Ridgecrest Sidewalks – On State Route 178 E between South Gateway Boulevard and Gold Canyon Street, the outside westbound lane will close for new curb ramps construction. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
· Cummings Valley Guardrail Repair – On State Route 202, Caltrans crews will repair guardrail from the west intersection of Cummings Valley Road to the east intersection. Work is scheduled on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and there will be one-way traffic control with a pilot car. Drivers may experience 15-minute delays.
· Cameron Road Utility Work – On State Route 58, there will be intermittent traffic breaks at Cameron Road so utility crews can pull wire over the highway. Work is scheduled for 7:00 am to 5:00 pm on Wednesday and drivers may experience brief delays.
· Mojave Tree Work – On State Route 58 from east of the scales to State Route 14, there will be intermittent shoulder closures in both directions on Wednesday. Work is scheduled from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Inyo County
· North Inyo Crack Sealing – On U.S. 395 from Pleasant Valley Dam Road to Lower Rock Creek Road, there will be intermittent northbound lane closures as Caltrans maintenance crews crack seal the highway. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.
· Bishop Utility Pole Replacement – On State Route 168 W between Otey Road and Mumy Lane, utility crews will replace an electrical pole beginning at 11:00 pm on Monday. Work is schedule to run until 8:00 am on Tuesday and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
· Barlow Lane Shoulder Closure – On State Route 168 W, there will be one-way traffic between Pa-Ha Lane and Barlow Lane on Tuesday as crews replace a utility pole. Work is scheduled from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.
· North Bishop Utility Work – On U.S. 395 between Tu Su Lane and Matlick Lane, utility crews will be transferring wire over the highway between 7:00 am and noon on Thursday. Drivers in both directions may experience 10-minute delays.
Mono County
· Topaz Lake Crack Sealing – On U.S. 395 between Cunningham Lane and the Nevada State Line, there will be one-way traffic control as Caltrans crews crack seal the highway. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.
· Benton Utility Work – On U.S. 6 near the State Route 120 E intersection, the southbound shoulder will close on Thursday for utility work. Work is scheduled from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Ongoing Traffic Impacts
Eastern Kern County
· Mojave Conductors – Utility crews will be installing overhead conductors on State Route 58 Monday through Thursday from 6:30 am to 5:00 pm. Drivers in both directions may experience five-minute delays between Randsburg Cutoff Road and the State Route 14 overpass.
· China Lake Water Main Replacement – On State Route 178 E between N. Brady Street and N. Victor Street, the westbound outside lane is closed while crews replace a water main on Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm. The outside lane will reopen after work hours and the shoulder will close at night.
Inyo County
· Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Project – Construction continues on the Olancha-Cartago 4-Lane Expressway Project. Northbound and southbound traffic has moved to the new lanes of U.S. 395 and there are now three roads connecting these lanes to the old lanes of the highway and State Route 190: the State Route 190 Connector at the southern end of the project area, Crystal Geyser Road, and Lake Street in Cartago. Northbound drivers will encounter two traffic switches on the new lanes of U.S. 395 and traffic is limited to one lane in each direction through the northern half of the project area. Drivers are advised to follow the directions posted on highway signs and to stay on paved roads if mapping apps suggest a dirt road alternative. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph through the project area and 45 mph through the two traffic switches.
· Death Valley Flood Damage Repair – Repairs to State Route 190 in Death Valley National Park have resumed. Crews are placing gabions on the highway shoulder at two locations: roughly three miles east of Emigrant Campground and a quarter mile east of Zabriskie Point. There will be one-way traffic control at both locations and drivers may encounter five-minute delays. Work is scheduled seven days a week from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Travelers are asked to be attentive to workers on the highway, slow for the cone zone, and move over whenever possible to give additional clearance. Be Safe and Be Work Zone Alert!
