Inyo & Mono Counties to Host Workshop on Public Safety Power Shutoff Events and Genasys Emergency Alerts

Inyo and Mono counties’ Offices of Emergency Management, in coordination with Southern California Edison (SCE), will host a community workshop to address recent Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) events and discuss the Genasys emergency alert system. The workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, January 28, from 6- 7:30 p.m. at the Clint G. Quilter Consolidated Office Building, 1360 N. Main St., Bishop, CA 93514.
Recent PSPS events in Northern Inyo and Southern Mono counties have prompted numerous questions from impacted communities – particularly from customers served by SCE’s Birchim and McGee circuits. These circuits were frequently placed within a Period of Concern (POC) due to a combination of critical fuel and weather conditions.
In addition to addressing PSPS events, the workshop will provide information to attendees on the Genasys emergency alert system, including Genasys Zones, which provide tailored notifications to enhance community preparedness during emergencies.
This workshop is an opportunity for residents, government officials, and businesses to learn, provide feedback, and collaborate on solutions to enhance community resilience and minimize the impacts of PSPS events:

• Customer Resources: Learn about resources available to local governments and customers to mitigate the effects of PSPS events.
• PSPS Protocols and Preparedness: Gain insights into PSPS protocols, the decision-making process, and tips for preparing for outages outside of POCs, including repair and maintenance outages.
• Emergency Services Coordination: Partner with Mono and Inyo counties’ Offices of Emergency Services to enroll customers in notification platforms like Ready Mono, Ready Inyo, and Access and Functional Needs (AFN) resources.
• Genasys Alerts: Discuss the Genasys emergency alert system, including Genasys Zones and how these tools can enhance community readiness during emergencies.
• Emergency Preparation Priorities: County staff will discuss emergency preparedness and hazard mitigation priorities.
