Top Officials Recognized on Eve of Retirement
The Inyo County Board of Supervisors joined fellow employees and community members on Tuesday in recognizing Chairperson Matt Kingsley and District Attorney Tom Hardy prior to their respective retirements at the end of the month. Treasurer-Tax Collector Alisha McMurtrie was similarly honored earlier this month.
The Board presented Hardy with a Certificate of Appreciation for his service to the County, including the last 12 years as D.A. The certificate noted that Hardy has served the County for a total of 19 years, “serving always with honor, integrity, and dedication.”
Hardy served as an Assistant District Attorney from 1997-2002, and then as a Deputy District Attorney IV from 2004-2006. He was appointed to the office of the District Attorney by the Board of Supervisors in September 2013, subsequently winning election to the post in 2014 and winning re-election twice thereafter.
Among those present to celebrate Hardy was his father and entire staff, who he recognized as being the very best of the best.
Kingsley has served on the Board for the past 12 years, winning election to the office in 2012 and going undefeated in two subsequent elections for a total of three terms. He was presented Tuesday with a Pinnacle Achievement Award – only the second one bestowed since the award’s creation earlier this year – which is intended to honor “select Inyo County employees who exemplify public service in a way which directly contributes to the success of the organization and furthers its goal of supporting the community.”
Kingsley opted to retire rather than run for a fourth term as Fifth District Supervisor. His successor, Will Wadelton, won election to the post in November and will be sworn in as the new Fifth District Supervisor on January 6.
Hardy’s replacement is expected to be selected by the Board of Supervisors in mid-January following public interviews. The chosen candidate will serve out the remainder of Hardy’s term until the 2028 election.
Another top elected official, Treasurer-Tax Collector McMurtrie, is also retiring this month. McMurtrie was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation on December 3 for more than 25 years of service to the residents and visitors of Inyo County, 18 of them as Treasurer-Tax Collector.
