Lakes Basin and Reds Meadow Road to temporarily close Friday, November 1 due to incoming storm

Mammoth Lakes, Calif., October 31, 2024 — To provide for public safety due to the impending storm, the Inyo National Forest has decided to close the Lakes Basin area and Reds Meadow Road this Friday, November 1 at 6:00 p.m. or earlier, depending on weather.
National Weather Service Reno is forecasting up to 4-5 inches of snow for Mammoth Lakes this Friday and Saturday, November 1 – 2 with snow levels down to 5,500 feet.
Road closures to wheeled, motorized vehicles include:

• Lakes Basin at the Lake Mary Road gate
• Old Mammoth Road at lower gate
• Reds Meadow Road at Minaret Vista

The roads will remain open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The Inyo National Forest will work closely with its partners at the Town of Mammoth Lakes and reopen the roads as soon as it’s deemed safe.
