City of Bishop Adopts Updated Smoking Ordinance to Enhance Public Health and Safety

Bishop, CA – [Date] – In a proactive effort to safeguard the health and safety of all residents, workers, and visitors, the City of Bishop has adopted an updated smoking ordinance that aligns with California Health and Safety Code 11362.3 (a) (1) and (a) (2).

The new ordinance prohibits smoking and vaping any substance in the following areas:

Within any park.
Within 50 feet of any park perimeter. (This prohibition does not apply to private property if the perimeter encroaches upon it. Additionally, individuals traveling along public streets and sidewalks are exempt.)
Within the parking lot and enclosed fenced areas of all city-owned sports facilities, grounds, or structures.
Within the parking lot and enclosed fenced areas of city-owned community gardens.
The ordinance also extends to walking or riding on a street, sidewalk, or city rights-of-way when individuals are in or upon designated no-smoking areas.

It is important to note that this ordinance does not impose a total ban on smoking; rather, it aims to balance the rights of smokers with the rights of non-smokers in public spaces.
