Mono County Board of Supervisors Authorizes Receipt of Donated Land
Karen Johnston Donates 10-Acres in Walker for Affordable Housing
MONO COUNTY, Calif. (JUNE 19, 2024) – On June 4, 2024, the Mono County Board of Supervisors adopted a Resolution authorizing the receipt of nearly 10-acres of donated real property (undeveloped) on Eastside Lane in Walker, California. The nearly 10-acre parcel was donated by Karen Johnston, widow of former Mono County Supervisor Larry Johnston. Supervisor Johnston served eight years in office before his untimely passing on March 13, 2018.
“Former Supervisor Johnston was a dedicated public servant, and his legacy lives on through this donation,” said Supervisor John Peters, Chair of the Mono County Board of Supervisors. “Words cannot express our gratitude to Karen Johnston for this generous gift that will increase local supply, and support housing for our county’s most vulnerable.”
Mono County has worked diligently to increase housing supply within the county, and taken multiple measures to address housing issues, and identify future sites, projects, and developments. The County intends to use this donated land to provide affordable, market rate, veteran, and other housing identified as a need within the county.
