It looks like Tioga Pass, the summer connection to Yosemite National Park, will open up in time for Memorial Day Weekend.
This important road to the west side of the Sierra has been plowed to the pass for awhile, but infrastructure concerns in Tuolumne Meadows kept the road closed to the public.
Adrienne Freeman with Yosemite National Park says that with five campgrounds, numerous bathrooms, water, sewer, and ranger facilities, there is a lot of infrastructure that has to come online before the road opens.
The snow is melting fast. Avalanche paths that often delay the opening of the road are no longer the problem. Freeman says that the road is currently open to administration traffic only.
Park officials now report that Tioga Pass will be open on Wednesday at 8:00 in the morning.
