We just completed our evening webinar with the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Sunday, August 20, 2023, 7pm

The tropical storm is still on target. In the Northern Inyo areas, we have had light to moderate rain most of the day. The eye of the storm at this report is around Edwards Airforce Base.

Northern Inyo is still looking at receiving now 1 to 3 inches of precipitation through Monday 11pm.

As in our previous report, NOAA’s concern for our area is rainfall on the existing snow pack. Our creeks, lakes and rivers are full and the ground is saturated.

Tonight, Death Valley is listed at Extreme. Northern Inyo County is at a level Major. For Northern Inyo the strength of the storm is expected to persist and intensify into the late hours of Sunday night. The storm will continue into Monday morning.

Tomorrow Death Valley will be listed as level Major and Northern Inyo County become level Moderate.

Winds in Northern Inyo will be 20 to 30 mph and Southern Inyo 30 to 40 mph.

Death Valley, Pahrump and the Amargosa Valley are expected to see major flooding as heaviest rains set in tonight.

There has been lots of flooding around the valley. Those flood reports are posted in other press releases and can be found out SierraWave.net or on Facebook at Sierra Wave Media.

Flooding is still a major concern.

Tonight, is not a night to travel. Please remain at home. If travel is absolutely necessary, exercise caution. Ensure you have ample water, food, and blankets with you. For those considering leaving the area, anticipate the possibility of not being able to return immediately due to flooding.
