Legislation to stop California’s gas-powered vehicle ban advances to House floor
WASHINGTON – Today, H.R. 1435, the Preserving Choice for Vehicle Purchases Act, was passed by the Energy and Commerce Committee and will next be considered by the entire U.S. House of Representatives.
H.R.1435, introduced by Reps. John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13), Jay Obernolte (CA-23), Bob Latta (OH-05) and Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), would amend federal law to block attempts to eliminate the sale of vehicles with internal combustion engines. Further, this legislation would restrict the Environmental Protection Agency from issuing any waivers that would ban the sale or use of new motor vehicles with internal combustion engines. The Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act was introduced in response to the California Air Resource Board’s decision to effectively ban the sale of new, internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035, in an effort to force automakers to cease the development and production of new gas-powered motor vehicles.
“If California bans all gas-powered vehicles, as the California Air Resources Board is attempting to do, our cost of living will increase, blackouts and brownouts will become more frequent, and commuting families in my district will suffer,” said Congressman Obernolte. “Our bill will restrict the EPA from issuing the waiver California needs to execute its proposed ban, and by doing so will ensure all American consumers have choices in their transportation options.”
“California regulators shouldn’t have the power to determine what vehicles are sold to families in Pennsylvania,” said Congressman Joyce. “One state should not be able to set national policy and Americans should not be forced into making purchases they are unable to afford. I’m proud to see the Preserving Choice in Vehicle Purchases Act pass through the Energy and Commerce Committee and look forward to its passage in the House.”
“The federal government should not be picking winners and losers that determine which kind of cars Americans drive – whether that’s a gas and diesel car or an electric vehicle. Yet, if the EPA grants California’s waiver request to ban internal combustion engine vehicles, Americans across the country will lose the ability to choose the vehicle that works best for them and their families. This is an issue of preserving the rights of the American consumer and allowing free markets to flourish, which is why I’m pleased the Energy and Commerce Committee advanced our bill today to prevent the EPA from granting this radical waiver request. I am now looking forward to seeing this bill clear its next legislative hurdle: a vote before the full U.S. House of Representatives,” said Congressman Latta.
H.R.1435 will next be considered by the entire body of the U.S. House of Representatives for a vote.

The world powers want to control the people and CO2 is just another tool in their propaganda tool box. The Earth’s wobble takes about 52,000 years to make a complete cycle. The sun controls our temperature not CO2. During the Earth’s wobble, part of earth gets more heat from the sun than the other part. Why do you think the big lakes in the Sierra Nevada mountains like Lake Tahoe have remains of large Tree Trunks 50 plus feet below the current water level. It’s because this side of the Earth was in a long period of drought and hotter Temps. And the other side of the Earth like the Sahara Desert were lush and green with large lakes. That’s why there is so much fossil fuels available under the sand. This has been taking place for billions of years. There were no human activity around. It’s just a natural thing. Man has nothing to due with climate change. Volcanoes give off more CO2 in one year than that cause by humans in their existence.
They say to not run appliances during the day because the grid cannot handle the workload. They know not everyone can afford an electric vehicle, and they don’t care.
They want only the rich and affluent on the highways and roadways (themselves and their friends) and everyone else on public transportation.
Another unpaid political announcement masquerading as a press release. Heaven forbid we have a cost of living increase just to do our share to combat climate change.
Ironic that this is posted just above the PR about the efforts CalTrans is making to address the problem. Once upon a time there were politicians who fought for the greater good for all their constituents i of pandering for votes.
Thank God, restricting choice is against everything that is sacred to a free economy. Let products succeed or fail on their own measure. Driving the price of energy up will put an end to prosperity by driving the cost of everything up. Freedom of choice is the backbone to a free economy, which has enabled our society to flourish producing surplus capital to invest in ha plethora of technologies that can mitigate against any number of detrimental impacts that may present themselves. The positive effects of the use of fossil fuels greatly outweighs any restrictions in their usage. The quality of life on Earth will be decimated by shutting down our fossil fuel energy, as more than 80% of all our energy is created through fossil fuels.
That last point you make is something all those who down voted your comment should really think about. Over 80% over energy people rely on is created with natural elements. Energy consumption/usage directly correlates with standard of living. If you are going to get on board with banning gas powered vehicles before there is an actual viable alternative then you better start decreasing your standard of living in other areas as well. Stop flying, stop driving, stop going out to eat, stop using so much electricity you vile hypocrite! And for goodness sake, set your thermostat to 85 in the summer and 55 in the winter! Better yet, go find a 400 sq ft tiny house to live in that’s within 15 minutes walk time from the government subsidized ration outpost.

It’ll never happen,and for those that think it will, or it’s some “Democratic conspiricy” wanting it done is a fool…
So I’m supposed to vote for a guy who cares more about votes than he cares about the planet? And wants to manipulate people into believing their ability to “choose” is more important than the greater good of reducing CO 2 emissions? Most of us are not that gullible … at least I hope not.

All the scientific proof from every ice core samples ever taken shows that Co2 is a product of temperature and only reacts to changes in temperature. It also shows a 300 year delay in its reaction. Co2 is not the causation in changes in atmospheric temperature. Co2 creates no energy of its own. Co2 can never heat the Earth as the Earth is the source of radiant heat that warmed it in the first place. The skillet can never heat the flames beneath it. Co2 along with every other molecule in the atmosphere is warmed by radiant heat from the Earth. It warms to whatever ambient temperature is reached in a given location and elevation. After sunset is dissipates that heat to space along with every other molecule surrounding it until the next sunrise starts this process all over again. Co2 is always at the ambient temperature. Co2 can never heat anything as it itself is heated.
We are in a Co2 drought. We could use five times more Co2. Plants are starving for Co2. You’ll know when we have enough Co2, when you can put a Co2 detector in the middle of an actively growing mature corn field in mid day and the conditions aren’t sucked down by more than half. The Co2 concentrations immediately return to normal at sunset when photosynthesis stops. Why would we wish to reduce the productivity of every living plant on earth by more than 50%?
Co2 simply moderates night time temperatures. It is either warming during the daylight hours, or it is cooling during the nighttime hours.
Nothing but good has come from the less than 1.5 C rise in the average atmospheric temperature since our emergence from the Little Ice Age in the early 1700’s just a little over three hundred years ago when the Thames River In London would freeze over most years, sometimes freezing up to 8 miles out to sea shutting down maritime industry.
This warming combined with the rise in Co2 has caused forests, and vegetation to expand and grow by more than 37% worldwide since 1950 alone, especially in the deserts and arid regions of the planet. Every living plant on Earth can now survive on 6% less water than yesterday’s plants entirely based on the rise in Co2 limiting the amount of Stomata cell openings grown to the atmosphere that intakes Co2 while at the same time restricting the exposure to evaporation to the atmosphere.
The Earth isn’t dying it is blooming. Not in spite of our Co2 emissions but because of them. Stop the insanity. There is absolutely nothing wrong with rising Co2 in our atmosphere. Celebrate the life giving invisible, inert molecule from which all life is dependent. The more the merrier.

No plantologist am I, but it may be a little more complicated than “more plants good”. There is evidence that plants grow more mass with more C02, but have lesser concentrations of nitrogen and protein.
Pedro, Unless you are eating them, so what? But I don’t think there really is evidence of that. Nitrogen comes from the soil, not the atmosphere, and very few plants are “High Protein”. That is why vegans have to be very careful about what they eat to get enough protein.
But we are eating them, even when we eat meat. Our livestock will need more plants to grow if plants are less nutritious.
There is research that does show that MIGHT be the case. I have to say “might” because honest researchers just tell us what they see in their study and move on to more study, it’s the rest of us that start spouting “facts” out of our orifices.
Nitrogen does come from the atmosphere into soil. Plants can’t use it directly but bacteria can and turn it into forms that fix to the soil that plants can use. Legumes like the alfalfa you see growing in Owens Valley have a relationship where the bacteria form nodules in the roots of the plant. Bacteria in those nodules produce ammonia the plant can use from elemental Nitrogen in the atmosphere. When the plants decay or become animal waste that nitrogen goes back in the soil.
So yes, we should care if our crops, or plants in general, have less protein and nitrogen. That means less food for us, even if it looks bigger.
You know Pedro, what has that got to do with elevated CO2? Nitrogen in soil is the limiting factor for protein concentration and growth. Given enough nitrogen and other “SOIL”” nutrients, elevated CO2 just allows for more photosynthesis, hence more growth. Not all nitrogen in the soil comes from nitrogen fixing bacteria. What about corn? Wheat? nitrogen-fixing bacteria? NO, thjats why they need lots of nitrogen to grow well, like your lawn.
78% of the atmosphere is nitrogen. 5% of the soil is nitrogen. If nitrogen “comes from the soil” why is so much of it in the air?
UH, Mono Resident, plants do not take nitrogen out of the air for nutrition, it needs to be in the soil, and it has to be in a form that the plants can uptake with their roots. I honestly don’t know why air has the composition that it does, I am only talking about plant nutrition here. The only time plants get nitrogen from the air is when we have a lightning storm. That can release free nitrogen which may then be washed into the soil for use by plants.
I did not say that the nitrogen in the air came from the soil, only that nitrogen used by plants comes from the soil.
Obviously, a topic that is far too complicated for you. It is easy to understand why so many people get taken in by the fake “science” and “scientists”, in the “climate change camp”. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you sincerely believe humans can change the climate with CO2, then stop breathing.

Electric cars are not going to reduce CO2 emissions. I mean – the stuff has to mined and manufactured and the electricity has to be produced and both solar and wind also fail to reduce CO2 in the long term because their materials have to be mined and manufactured and transported to a site which has been absolutely cleared of any life and all of that requires fossil fuels. May I suggest you read the book Bright Green Lies?

I believe the science behind climate change. If we fallow the science and make the required changes to reverse the damage done we will have saved the planet.
If the science is wrong we would still get cleaner air and a growing green economy that would be great for all of us.
If we do nothing and the science is correct we all burn up.
I for one do not want to wait until we have 100% agreement before we act.
I bet you also believe the science when you were flat out lied to when you injected an experimental foreign substance into your body.. (over 70% chance I’m correct in that assumption). My apologies if this is incorrect but the point still stands for most here.
Science has been weaponized and politicized and only people who can actually think for themselves or have the gift of discernment are capable of seeing through the BS.
Start by researching climate engineering/geoengineering and research ionospheric heaters. Oh and maybe use your eyes and power of observation for once in your life… Ya know, maybe look up at the sky more often. Perhaps then, once you figure out what others like myself have known for years you will ask Dennis Mattinson why he pretends to be completely clueless about climate engineering whilst pretending to be a weather man. Even though all he does is read a script provided to him by Raytheon and NOAA.
