Cal OES Announces Approval of $582,639 in CDAA Funds to Help Inyo County Cover the Cost of Pine Creek Bridge Replacement and Slope Protection Measures

SACRAMENTO — The California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) today announced the approval in late May of $582,639 in California Disaster Assistance Act (CDAA) funding to help Inyo County cover eligible costs related to the replacement of a bridge over Pine Creek that failed due to severe erosion of the river’s bank caused by excessive snow and rain generated by storms in January and February 2017, as well as the cost of measures to protect the slope of the river’s bank.

The funding approved by Cal OES is the latest of $3,068,124 in reimbursements to the County related to the project that have been approved to date as part of the state’s 75-percent share of CDAA-eligible costs.

CDAA payments are provided on a cost-share basis and are based on actual costs incurred by the county and provided by as work is completed and as documentation and requests for payment are submitted to Cal OES.

Earlier, Cal OES awarded the county $358,704 to help cover eligible administrative costs related to the project.

Eligible work covered in the reimbursements includes the removal of debris from Pine Creek channel; the removal and replacement of the damaged bridge, including abutments; the construction of approach slabs, road work and guard rails; as well as slope and scour protection through the installation of rip rap.  Other costs eligible for reimbursement in conjunction with the project include design, survey and geotechnical work and studies; material testing; as well as environmental and archaeological clearances; construction management and regulatory agency coordination.

Former Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s state of emergency proclamation in conjunction with the storms authorized CDAA reimbursements for Inyo County and other eligible entities.
