Organization Advocates on Public Policy Issues Impacting the Western States MONO COUNTY, Calif. (MAY 26, 2023) – Mono County Supervisor John Peters (District 4) was elected 2nd Vice President of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Western Interstate Region (WIR) Board of Directors during their annual conference in Washington County, Utah earlier this month. WIR is dedicated to the promotion of western interests within NACo, including public land issues, community stability and economic development, and the promotion of the traditional western way of life.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to serve in this leadership capacity, which will help to elevate advocacy efforts on behalf of Mono County and our fellow western state counties,” said Supervisor Peters. “Rural, frontier counties like ours face unique challenges, and WIR exists to be the voice and advocate for our western interests at the national level. Elevating the unique issues that tourism-based gateway counties encounter will be a top priority for me.” WIR membership consists of fifteen western states, and their mission is to be the counties’ advocate for public policy issues affecting the west. Supervisor Peters currently serves as Mono Counties representative to NACo and on the WIR Board of Directors on behalf of the California State Association of Counties (CSAC).
