SHERIFF’S OFFICE CONTINUES THOROUGH PROBE OF RECENT HOMICIDE
The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office continues to actively investigate the homicide of a local resident whose body was recently found southeast of Independence.
Deputies responding to a report of a deceased individual discovered the body of 34-year-old
Independence resident Dorothy Erin McQueen’s on April 10 off of Mazourka Canyon Road.
Since then, investigators have been following numerous leads and a forensic autopsy was conducted. While investigators understand that the public is anxious for additional details and updates, they must also limit the amount of information they can release in order to protect the integrity of the investigation.
“Unfortunately, at this time our office cannot release any additional information due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation,” Sheriff Stephanie Rennie said. “Our investigators, in collaboration with investigators from the Inyo County District Attorney’s Office, are working diligently and tirelessly to ensure a thorough and complete investigation is conducted.” The Inyo County Sheriff’s Office has also received vital assistance from the Mono County Sheriff’s Office and California Department of Justice.
“Our deepest sympathies go out to the family of Ms. McQueen and her close friends and loved
ones,” Rennie said, adding, “We at the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office understand the community’s
concerns and once we can release further information, we will do so expeditiously.”
Investigators have a dedicated phone line to receive tips from the public on this specific case.

The 2006 Renee Fox case and incident wasn’t an “unsolved ” case, and not a murder…
The worst thing about that Fox case was all the “alternative facts and truths”that were told back then to her family and with that final “report ” being told…
And the memorial constructed for her being destroyed by “unknown” people
All I could find was that the cause of death was never released? Maybe it was released to her family but not made public??

On the 2006 Renee Fox case,the cause of death was released, but for many, including one or two in LE as well as her family, one of those “alternative facts” issues I mentioned…an easy way out with what they said and tried to explain after weeks of bungleing back then…
Law enforcement didn’t bungle anything. In fact, the nonprofit search group that came to help the family couldn’t even find her on horseback. Her cause of death, if I recall correctly, was drug toxicity.

Funny ( not funny ) then, that Renee Fox’s family,and others saying they were told by Tim Miller, the head of Texas Equasearch himself, that their search group was turned away when arriving and willing to help in the search of the Mazourka Canyon area, and told to only search along HWY 395, as to not get “in their way “.
Add that to before then, when she was first seen and reported to authorities on Saturday at 5 P.M. June 24, 2006 as a person seen lying in the road,obviously needing assistance,but refusing help from the reporting party and given a bottle of water.
Next day, another party of ORV’ers finding and turning her purse and belongings found on the road into the authorities,thus reminding them of the report # 1 the day before that was ignored ( a 20 hour delay ) of a person in trouble miles away from town walking in 107 degree tempatures.
And then spin began,saying the whole area was thoroughly searched,and a good chance she was missing “on her own accord”,and not wanting to be found, and to the point her family arriving from Simi Valley being watched at a Lone Pine motel they were staying in for possible involvement, and being told a false narative of starting a “new life ” in another State, or a planned meeting-up with a boyfriend to “start over “..
Six weeks later, she was found by a private searcher about 20 feet off Mazourka Canyon road, and less than a quarter mile from where the authorities staged their search party back on June 25th.
When her vehicle was found, it was reported “6 miles from where she was found”,when actually it was 11.2 miles from where she walked from and succumbed to, a city girl, from probably a sleepless night.over an 11 mile walk in the 107 degree temp, heat exhaustion,and sadly, drugs in her system added to that.
All facts,that her family I had got to know, and what Benett Kessler could attest to, if she were still around to do so.
So please, no” unwarrented” pats on the back ” how things were done well and proper back then,and actually nothing to do with the Dorothy McQueen case now…
We all hope with this case, it’s handled properly and honestly,and eventually with an arrest and conviction made.
