EVERY 15 MINUTES PROGRAM TAKING PLACE IN MAMMOTH LAKES
May 4, 2023, Mammoth Lakes, CA – On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department, in conjunction with the Bridgeport Office of the California Highway Patrol and Mammoth High School, will be conducting a simulated drunk driving traffic collision as part of the “Every 15 Minutes” program. The collision will be staged on Sierra Park Road and will begin at about 10:30 a.m. The mock collision will take place for approximately one hour. During the mock collision there will be a high concentration of emergency vehicles in the area. We would like to ensure that the public is aware this is a mock emergency incident, and that no real emergency actually exists.
Every 15 Minutes is a two-day program which demonstrates to high school students the impact drinking and driving has on friends, families, and their community. The first day of the program is highlighted by a simulated traffic collision that will be conducted at the high school involving an impaired teenage driver and fatally injured victims. The event includes emergency responses from police, fire, ambulance, coroner, tow trucks companies and helicopter, just as an actual collision would require. The program will conclude with an assembly with guest speakers for students on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
This event is conducted by the Mammoth Lakes Police Department, with support from the California Highway Patrol, Mono County Sheriff’s Department, Mammoth Hospital, Mono County District Attorney’s Office, Mammoth Lakes Fire Department, Mono County Paramedics, Care Flight, and the Mammoth Unified School District.
Funding for the program was provided by grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additional funding for this program was provided by numerous donations from the following businesses throughout the Mammoth Lakes Community: VONS, SIERRA NEVADA LODGE, MAMMOTH BUSINESS ESSENTIALS, INC., EASTERN SIERRA AUDIO, PERFORMANCE AUTO BODY & TOWING, TOOMEY’S, STARBUCKS, SALSA’S, MAMMOTH SIERRA TOWNHOMES.

Another thing they should address is the lack of consequences and penalties for those that choose to drink and drive and get arrested multiple times, thanks to our court systems…
I personally knew someone that got a DUI one day….out the next….and the following night, ANOTHER DUI…same result, out the next day.
And other than a fine and community service, not much consequences..
How about automatic jail-time coming with more than one DUI.
Vehicle impound for 30 days with DUI # 2,along with jail time 30-60 days.
DUI # 3…..lose your licence to drive, jail time and a huge fine
, and years of probation.
And no slap-on-the-wrist plea deals for those that have the money to hire expensive defense lawyers, like what happened to me and my family when a drunk driver killed my Brother and his best friend, running into the back of their motorcycle while parked and waiting at a stoplight heading back to their USMC Marine base in Memphis, Tennessee….
