Caltrans Reopens North June Lake Loop from Winter Closure

MONO COUNTY — Caltrans reopened State Route 158 N (North June Lake Loop) from its winter closure today at 10:00 am. The highway has been closed since December 12, 2022. It is the first highway in District 9 to reopen from its winter closure.

Drivers planning on visiting North June Lake Loop should look out for falling rocks and debris as the snow from the winter months continues to melt. There will be limited parking on the shoulder of State Route 158 N until all snowbanks can be removed from the side of the highway.

District 9 maintenance crews continue to make progress on clearing snow from the seasonal closure roads following a historic winter. Here is the latest information on our seasonal closure highways:

  • State Route 89 (Monitor Pass)
  • District 9 maintenance crews have cleared the highway to the Mono/Alpine County Line. Caltrans District 10, which manages the highway in Alpine County, continues to plow and remove debris from the road as it works toward reaching the Mono/Alpine County Line.
  • State Route 108 (Sonora Pass)
  • Sonora Junction maintenance crews have begun clearing snow from State Route 108. Approximately two miles of the highway west of the marine base have been cleared. Caltrans District 9 manages State Route 108 from U.S. 395 to the Mono/Tuolumne County Line.
  • State Route 120 W at the Lee Vining Gate
  • Snow removal on State Route 120 W will begin once maintenance crews have finished clearing State Route 120 E.
  • State Route 120 E (Mono Mills Road)
  • Maintenance crews from Lee Vining and McGee Creek are clearing snow from State Route 120 E between U.S. 395 and Benton Crossing Road. State Route 120 E remains closed between Benton Crossing Road and Benton Hot Springs due to pavement damage caused by flood waters in March.
  • State Route 270 (Bodie Road)
  • Bridgeport maintenance crews have begun clearing snow from State Route 270. Approximately six miles of the highway have been partially or completely cleared.
  • State Route 168 W at Aspendell
  • Bishop maintenance crews have begun clearing snow from State Route 168 W. Due to warming temperatures and avalanche risk, snow-clearing operations on the highway end each day at noon.
