U.S. Highway 395 Reopens with Escorts from Lee Vining to State Route 167
MONO COUNTY – Caltrans will be escorting travelers on U.S. Highway 395 between the town of Lee Vining and the junction with State Route 167 beginning tomorrow. No additional escorts will be offered as crews will be continuing to work to fully reopen the road.
Escort schedule:
· 7:00 am to 8:30 am
· 3:30 pm to 5:00pm
Caltrans will post updates on road closures to its social media channels on Twitter and Facebook. Before you leave home, check Quickmap.dot.ca.gov to get the latest on road conditions, including chain control restrictions. You can also call the Road Condition Hotline at 1-800-427-ROAD (7623).
Because roads are slick, we ask that all drivers slow down and allow themselves plenty of time to reach their destinations safely. Caltrans also reminds drivers to move over for Caltrans crews, CHP, and other emergency vehicles. If you come across a snowplow on the highway, create enough space to keep yourself and our snowplow operators safe.

STOP THE CALTRANS 395 PRISON EXPERIMENT.
The citizens of Monroe county need freedom to go shopping and take care of their daily needs.
Perhaps last September if caltrans had actually inspected the 395 highway and facilities instead of wandering up into the Dynamo pond up off green Creek road joy riding and taking videos of the beautiful fall colors of the trees.
And actually inspected the facilities and culvert pipes.
We wouldn’t be in this predicament.

On their return trip from Dynamo pond they stop by my campsite and began harassing me when I asked them what they were doing 8 miles from the pavement.
After the gentleman and the floppy hat tried to enter my rig I started video recording.
I filed a complaint with the main caltrans office in Sacramento.
Christopher from district 9 and Bishop in for me that they were inspecting Bridges and culverts in the green Creek area?
When caltrans realign the highway 40 years ago they neglected to put covert pipes through it so it works more like a levy.
Take that and lack of maintenance on the minimal culvert system that will filled with ice and snow from caltrans flinging it from 395.
And this short video clip will show you the results.

I have repeatedly text and made phone calls over the last 3 weeks attempting to get these culvert pipes cleared.
Was informed last week that they only had one mini excavator and it was in the Walker colville area.
It would have been nice if those electronic sign boards would have indicated the hours that the Abbey bypass would be accessible for travel but that hasn’t happened either.
So the question is will caltrans install more covert pipes so Bridgeport doesn’t get flooded by the 395 Levy like it did in 1997?
In 1997 the Napa store had flood waters 2 ft higher than its floor.
Will it blew up a couple months back and burned.
Nothing has really happened as far as cleaning up this toxic mess which sits on the banks of the East Walker.
The EPA and USGS hydrology have been notified of this situation.
But no action has been taken to prevent leaching or this materials being washed down into the river and into the reservoir.

Interesting I remember hiking along those power lines overlooking Mono lake.
They had double guy wires heading up hill to support them during avalanches.
I guess it was worth saving money not to reinstall the guy wires so every snowflake that rolls down the hill takes them out.
And there is the original highway or dirt road that was used for over a hundred years as an avalanche bypass from this area forever.
But the Mono lake committee flakes decided it was not a good thing to remove the snowflakes and take this route.
Does anyone know if they will be escorting drivers tomorrow morning (28th)? Desperate to utilize this route to get back to the Bay Area from mammoth if possible.
Forgot about Bridgeport, again…..????
Highway Patrol in Bridgeport said traffic will go both ways 7 days a week from 167 to lee vining on 395 during those hours
395 has been open to the north of B-port for a week or more and now you can go south too! So what, exactly, is being “forgotten”?
If Edison had buried the cables when they replaced the poles in the avalanche area a few years ago, we would not have had to deal with the expense of the power outage. The road repair would not have been held up until Edison decided to take a helicopter flight more than 48 hours after the avalanche closed the road. If Edison again decides to keep the cables above ground they obviously need a new planning director as avalanches will continue. It is neglient on Edison’s part to not have a more permanent fix. Caltrans and CA Highway Patrol have worked very hard to safely open the road. Thank you so much for your dedication to all of Mono County! I do not agree with the Mono person who believes Bridgeport was forgotten. Caltrans, Highway Patrol and the county rock! So do all individuals who helped neighbors.
