Whitney Alley was back on Bishop City Council’s agenda last week.

The Council voted to award a two-phase contract for design services to Stantec Consulting
Services. The initial work includes public outreach and schematic design completed over the
next three to four months. The second stage includes construction documents for the project.
Each phase is roughly $50,000 funded through a $100,000 California Natural Resources Agency Proposition 68 grant program.

The vision for Whitney Alley is a tree-lined green corridor with “bioswales (channels designed to concentrate and convey storm water run-off while removing debris and pollution), permeable surfaces for storm water capture, pollinator habitat and construction of pedestrian paths to improve walkability and safety, plus increased access to green space and recreation for
disadvantaged communities” according to the agenda staff report.

According to City Manager Destin Dishion, the current project would also include Whitney Alley south of Line Street, contingent on public input and how much the project funding will allow.

Dishion told the Council the City has $500,000 already set aside for street projects.
