MONO COUNTY, Calif. (FEBRUARY 21, 2023) – The temporary increase to CalFresh
(federally known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP) benefit amounts
enacted at the beginning of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic are set to expire in March
2023 per the End of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. A final CalFresh Emergency
Allotment will be issued in March 2023, and recipients will return to their original CalFresh benefit amount in April 2023.

In March 2020, Congress authorized Emergency Allotments to help individuals and
families meet food needs, providing between $95 – $400 in additional financial benefit per family each month. CalFresh benefit amounts are based upon individual circumstances, including household size, income, and deductions.

Mono County residents in need of additional support are encouraged to visit
https://www.cafoodbanks.org/find-food/ or https://www.imaca.net/food/ to learn more about
local available resources.

The CalFresh program provides monthly benefits in the form of an electronic benefit card
to assist low-income households in purchasing the food they need to maintain adequate
nutritional levels. These benefits can add to your food budget to put healthy and nutritious food
on the table. If you are finding it difficult to afford the nutritious food that you and your family
needs, the CalFresh Program may be able to help you. Details on the CalFresh program can be
accessed here: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/calfresh.
