Caltrans crews are in Death Valley working to reopen a portion of State Route 190. The highway shut down early Sunday morning due to flooding and debris flows caused by rains generated by Tropical Storm Kay. Currently, State Route 190 is closed from the junction of State Route 136 to Stovepipe Wells. That closure will remain in place overnight with the assistance of the CHP.

Crews are removing debris from the highway between State Route 136 and Trona Wildrose Road. That section will likely be the first part of the highway to reopen. State Route 190 from Trona Wildrose Road to Stovepipe Wells is expected to remain closed for longer as Caltrans will have to repair several hundred feet of highway near Towne Pass that was washed out by flood waters. State Route 190 from Stovepipe Wells to Death Valley Junction remains open.
