[TOML press release]: The NWS is forecasting periods of heavy snow through Thursday morning for Mono County. A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until 4:00am Friday, January 29. Total snowfall expected is 3 to 7 feet above 8,000 feet. Strong winds mainly today. Eastern Sierra from Tahoe-Mammoth and points immediately east are right in the core track of highest snowfall rates with a stalling “cold atmospheric river” – impressive rates into Thursday.
Impacts
Blizzard conditions over passes with thundersnow. Prolonged disruptive travel impacts expected region-wide. Hold off on travel until daytime Friday. Major delays and cancellations for air travel, roads. Increased avalanche danger and issues with snow loads on vulnerable structures. Power outages possible with strong winds.
