This action by the state in dropping Mono County from its Tier-2, “Red,” “Substantial” category down to the Tier 1- “Widespread,” “Purple” category was expected by Mono County officials.

Bought my 26th M.M. season pass (now IKON) pass in April…(Pre Covid cluster f*ck) I’m reading that some locals are jacked at the Mountain for running at all. I’d not thought about that ..but I get it. I worked at M.M. in the Main Lodge upstairs dining room for a season in the late 60s. My daughter, years later, worked for Donny Mayer (sp?) in Demos and Repairs for a season at Canyon Lodge. If I’m reading some of comments here accurately there are M.M. locals who are not thrilled with The Mountain running at all..as it will attract flat-landers from far away (San Luis Obispo, for example) …….I’d not thought about the undercurrent of “hostility” …but I certainly get it. If flat landers like me observe all the Covid protocols as M.M. locals do I hope you will put up with us.. At 74 I’m running out of seasons…
Observing all the protocols would actually mean staying home. At 75 I’m hopin to have a few more seasons too but not at the expense of public health concerns

I don’t work for the mountain, nor do I live in the town. I do live in Mono County and have friends and a few neighbors who work for the mountain. Their biggest complaints I’ve heard have been visitors who argue and/or resist complying with the health guidelines. This puts employees in the tough spot of being enforcers, and they aren’t paid much to do it either. Like most things in life, the majority of people are good folks who will try to do the right thing. But there’s always a few…
It’s a double edged sword. The mountain is the economic engine for the town, but it’s also a big source for virus transmission. So yeah, the locals can get frustrated sometimes, especially when visitors flout the rules.
The locals aren’t necessarily helping out either. One restaurant in town has already had 3 outbreaks and the owner is still clueless.
