(Revised/Update: 8/25/3:30pm)
At 10:30 pm Monday night details are still sketchy, but Sierra Wave has heard from numerous sources that a large police response took place on Monday afternoon of an officer involved incident near Pearsonville, in which, purportedly, a man with a rifle pointed a rifle towards officers.
Over a dozen Inyo County Sheriff Deputies reportedly responded to the call, as did the officers with the California Highway Patrol, and even some Kern County Sheriff Officers, Mono County Sheriff’s Officers, and Olancha VFD. There was a report of a SWAT team on scene as well.
The CHP helicopter was sent to the area to assist with a search, which would make it appear that somehow the suspect was able to avoid law enforcement.
The man, again, reportedly appears to have been identified by the Sheriff’s Office and is known to law enforcement although his identify was not confirmed last night.
At this time there is no indication on whether the suspect has been found. A report this afternoon confirmed that he had not been found by 3pm today.
More details later as they become known.

So What’s the update?! It’s Wednesday, and there would be a follow-up story unless the suspect got away and is STILL on the run?!?! Do you mean to tell me they had over 50 Sheriffs, 2 Swat Teams, and 1 police helicopter Circling the area- all for one guy?! I’m pretty sure there’s more to the story!!
We saw all the sheriffs with bulletproof vests and guns were drawn so. What aren’t you reporting?!
There’s certainly more, if or when he’s caught. We are wondering exactly what type of rifle he had in his possession when he confronted the travelers and the police. All those confiscated from his home were BB and Air/Pellet guns. We’re looking into it with ICSO. People, including a child as I recall a past news story from the past, have been shot and killed by those mistaking a pellet gun as a real gun, i.e. the type that fires real bullets. Not that BB or Pellet guns cannot be dangerous, but in the overall scheme of things, a real gun or rifle that fires bullets is considered far more dangerous.
IT WAS ABOUT 50 POLICE CARS AND SWAT WAS PRESENT. Saw it driving up to Mammoth last night.
Thank you all in law enforcement and our volunteer Fire Departments for your prompt and quick response. Stay well, healthy and safe.
I’ve never heard of a “long rifle” . Long gun, which is usually how a rifle is described to differentiate it from a handgun . In the film Chisum , John Wayne tells his men “Cover me with your long guns” . To which Billie the Kid reply’s “I’ve never had much luck with a long gun” .
Thanks for the information. It was described as a long rifle in reports that I was getting, so I went with that. Whatever was good for John Wayne, is good enough for me, Pilgrim!
