maybe we could install barb wire – or some type of traps? that would stop those darn pesky people from taking their families out to remote areas where they could relax and be safe!
Campers are moving from the developed campsites in our area, and are setting up camp all around Movie Road and around the Alabama Hills. While these locations aren’t considered a “developed campsite”, quite a few residents are concerned that more and more will set up camp. We want them gone!
Concerned Lone Pine
I turned onto Movie Road a couple days ago to check it all out and was greeted by a bunch of dirty diapers deposited on the roadside.Luckily,I had a big trash bag in the back of my truck.Heard today lots of gloves, masks and trash amongst the rocks.
So many say this is bringing out “the best in people”.I beg to differ.I’m seeing a lot of the worst in people, both people I know and people I don’t know.
Sometimes I wonder how it’s going to change a lot of us once it gets better and then goes away.
Because I think it’s going to,hopefully for the best, but not so sure of that.
Just who do you people think you are ? You do not OWN the OWENS VALLY . You Probably do not even own the Home you are living in . How dare you demand that Free Americans who live under the Bill of Rights and U.S. Constitution be Banned from camping on PUBLIC LANDS.
You are absolutely right that we don’t own Owen’s Valley, but when the BLM/USFS puts up signs stating that campers aren’t allowed, you are breaking the LAW! FYI, I hope a ranger drives up to your RV, and tells you to pack sand. I DARE you to cop your attitude with them! Go back to your multi-million dollar home in the “hot zone” where you belong. OUR community can’t take the chance of you bringing COVID-19 here, let alone your piss-poor attitude. Get OUT!!

Sounds to me like “INYAFACE” thinks he’s above the law and can do as he pleases. One of them guys that thinks everyone is stepping on his “rights” and infringing on his “freedoms”.
His attitude is a good reason why the so-called “visitors” coming up here now, actually people trying to free-be camp wherever they want for as long as they want, legal or not until this COVID-19 plays out in their big cities aren’t so welcome now.
Sadly, until the “no camping” rules are enforced by someone,he and they will continue to get away with it,doing as they please.
And then, when they do leave,we’ll be the ones cleaning up the messes that they left.
Maybe him and his party are the ones that left those dirty diapers that I had to pick up the other morning,or the one that was caught dumping the buckets of human waste behind the rocks.
Unless or until these no camping rules are enforced,it’s only going to get worse, one way or the other.Too bad it’s not the ole’west days right about now…
.
David, I agree with you 100%! I (personally) am not against visitors enjoying these beautiful lands (which is our backyard), but when they don’t respect the “public land” by dumping their trash/waste, along with NOT abiding by the rules set forth by the BLM/USFS is appalling!
Our small Community (along with other communities around this World) are in a war to stop the spread of COVID19. Our Community doesn’t have the resources to take care of the Residents if we have an outbreak.
I want to applaud the BLM/USFS/Sheriff staff who are enforcing these rules!
David, thank you for taking the time going out there and picking up the “trash”. I hope we will meet up sometime on a cleanup. Last one I attended was at the Alabama Hills welcome center.
David Dennison Wants this Virus to (PLAY OUT) in the Big Cities where Other AMERICANS are forced to work and live in concentrated populations. He could care less how high the death toll could be there . As long as he is safe in his big happy Sierra BUBBLE of Delusion. But i can promise you he is Drooling at the $1200 Emergency check he will receive shortly . Probably has it Spent already on Fly Fishing Gear and a new Mountain Bike . Hope you can stand the stress up there David , It must be hell on earth . lol
INYAFACE, if ALL of the communities would actually hunker down at their HOUSE, and not packing up their RV and drive out of town, then WE as Americans can overcome this.
Like I said earlier, our resources (hospital, clinics) doesn’t have the capability to handle an outbreak in our small town (along with Independence, Olancha, Keeler, etc).
I am sorry if you are taking this as a personal attack. We ALL are at war with COVID-19, regardless of where your home is.
Simple and sweet, Just stay HOME!! Pack up your RV and go back home. I am almost certain you have better resources at your city then here (Bigger hospitals, more clinics, MERCY).
When this blows over and we have a handle on COVID-19, then come back up here.
INYAFACE
Gotta love how you spun that last post to me there.
Nobody is wishing ill-well on anyone living in the big SoCal cities.Do you obey the laws and rules down there,or just do as you please, and if it doesn’t fit your criteria, you claim your “rights and freedom” are being violated, like you say about up here?.If the COVID-19 was effecting our area at a quick pace, and it wasn’t where your living,I wouldn’t make a beeline to your culdasac of homes and park and play, ignoring the rules, both the written and un-written ones.
As far as the $1,200.00 I’ll have coming (what does that have to do with anything ?),I’m not really “drooling” over getting it ,and I don’t plan on buying a mountain bike or fishing gear with any of it .I’ve already bought a top-of-the-line rod and reel and a planned camping-fishing trip to Lee Vining or Bridgeport….when the campgrounds are open again and if and when the Trout season opens up..if it doesn’t and/or until it does,I’m not going to go on a rant about my “right and freedom to fish and camp” in an area that’s more or less closed and doesn’t want visitors and outsiders until this pandemic passes..
As far as the stress goes,I try to keep that at a low level..About the only time it goes up is when I go to the market and a group of about 10 people pull up in a motorhome and all come inside together buying 3 cases of beer, firewood and marshmallows.. ..but no trash bags…
Campers are arriving I. Bridgeport in droves. Get these people out of here.
Sierra Wave reached out to Mono County authorities and received the following from Ingrid Braun, Sheriff-Coroner:
“We did have quite a few people up at Travertine and Buckeye Hot Springs yesterday. Travertine is BLM and Buckeye is USFS – Humboldt. We partnered with both BLM and USFS to put in hard closures. Travertine was closed off last night, and Buckeye should be closed today. All developed campgrounds and recreation sites are closed, and we will continue to educate those who are either unaware or just don’t care.”
