Press release
Rich Foye will introduce the film UNDER WESTERN STARS, at the Monday, June 5 meeting of the Mono Basin Historical Society, at the Lee Vining Community Center. Scenes from the 1938 movie were filmed in the Eastern Sierra and provided the first starring role for Roy Rogers, the “King of the Cowboys.”
This 53 minute movie offers “Owens Valley water wars” meets “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” meets “The Grand Ole Opry!” In other words, Roy saves ranchers threatened with water loss to a big, distant city with his six-gun and his election to Congress, while singing songs throughout, including the Academy Award nominated song, “Dust”!
All are welcome to this free event (donations welcomed by the non-profit historical society). A potluck dinner and business meeting begins at 6 PM; the movie program at 7 PM. Call 760 647-6461, email [email protected] or visit www.monobasinhistory.org
