Lupe Almaguer, 56, of Mammoth Lakes, provided day care for Mammoth children over 20 years. Tuesday, he pled guilty to four felony counts of child molestation of four victims. Deputy District Attorney Todd Graham said the victims were each under the age of 14.
When Mammoth Police arrested Almaguer in October, they said that he had committed crimes of sexual abuse on two children in his care who are now adults. Almaguer pled not guilty to two counts of molestation. In November, Deputy DA Graham filed two more charges to which Almaguer entered not guilty pleas. He remained in custody at the Mono County Jail under a half million dollars bail. Attorney Dave Hammond was appointed to represent him.
Almaguer had been scheduled for a court appearance Tuesday. At the end of the day, Deputy DA Graham sent out a press release that said, “Today Mr. Guadalupe “Lupe” Almaguer pled guilty to four felony counts of child moelstation of four victims while each victim was under the age of 14.” Graham said the defendant also admitted what is known as a “one-strike” allegation for each count which subjects him to a possible prison term of 15 years to life for each count.
Graham said the court will sentence Almaguer February 15th in Bridgeport Superior Court at 1:30pm. He faces a maximum potential punishment in state prison of 60 years to life and a minimum potential punishment in state prison of 15 years to life. Graham said that Almaguer is not eligible for probation.
