Thank you Robin and Mono County Behavioral Health. You all do a great job.
I have been suffering from depression for over a decade. I have lived in Mono County for over 20 years. I have had difficulty from alcohol and drugs. Several times when I have been drinking, I have wanted to kill myself. Mono County Mental health is a waste of time. They will not even speak to me. What ends up happening is I end up in Jail when I need to be seen by a professional. The bottom line is the county does not have facility and Mono County Mental Health does absolutely nothing. Robin you know me and you think of every excuse not to do your job. Sorry, just my experience. One day the taxpayers will pay for Mono County Mental Health’s incompetence. Not just my opinion.
Hang in there notachance.
When things get bad try hugging a dog, it helps me.
This article seems timely. People under 24 committing suicide is so tragic. But the age we live in is so difficult even for the supposedly mature person. Reading the news is itself stressful enough.

The National Institutes of Health says that three-quarters of mental illnesses begin by age 24, a group that’s also traditionally been more at risk for being uninsured. But a new study [subscription] from Johns Hopksin/Harvard finds that Obamacare is providing both coverage and health care to this group, which can now be covered on their parents’ plans. MSNBC has the top findings from the study.
I am sorry to hear that some of you who have taken the time to comment have had negative experiences with Mono County Behavioral Health (MCBH). Please feel free to contact me personally so I can help sort out what may have gone wrong.
The purpose of our reaching out to our community in the wake of Robin Williams taking his life is to provide resources, including our agency, to anyone who might need support. This could be anything from services to a conversation about how to talk to a loved one, friend, neighbor, co-worker who you might be concerned about.
There is a lot of work to do in our society to break down the walls of stigma that those of us who suffer from mental health illnesses encounter everyday. We are dedicating our work to this fight and I hope that anyone who is struggling will reach out to someone, somewhere. It certainly doesn’t have to be to MCBH, but we are here to help in whatever way we can.
I’m not much of a fan of shrinks, but Robin Williams is trying to offer people help here. I hope they post Inyo’s mental health # also.
Sorry, Robin Roberts is trying to help people here. Maybe Robin Williams also?
I moved from Mammoth to Reno. The state’s mental health system is adequate. I was diagnosed in the late 90’s.
I’m still able to go down to Mammoth and ski in the winter, and do summer hiking in the Eastern Sierra.
I have manic depression and spent 20 years of my life in Mammoth Lakes. I tried to get help multiple times in that town only to be shunned by the Health Department and by the local community as well. Mammoth Lakes is no place for people with serious life threatening depression!
Maybe things have changed. BK
No, nothing has changed and this is why people such as myself are so terrified to open up about our depression. Lives can be saved, but communities and people need to accept the fact that people with depression exist and we don’t deserve to be treated like garbage 🙂
I totally agree….nothing has changed…..I sought help in Mammoth/Mono County Mental Health…to no avail….WHAT ARE THEY GETTING PAID FOR? Then I went to a private therapist..Im still here and doing better.
