BACKGROUND:

Beacon Solar is a significant contributor to meeting LADWP’s renewable energy goals, providing over 3% toward the state mandate of 25% by 2016 and 33% by 2020. The utility scale Beacon Solar Power Project will also spur development of 50 MW of small-scale, distributed solar power within the city, as part of LADWP’s Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Program, to help boost the local clean energy economy.

The Beacon Solar Project benefits include:

–       250 Megawatts (MW) of clean, solar energy

–       50 MW of local L.A. FiT solar

–       Enough clean, renewable sun power for 127,000 homes (based on 763 gigawatt-hours of power use)

–       Displaces 328,800 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions

–       Equivalent to removing 82,500 cars off the road
