Dear Friends:
Elections come and go, but the Mammoth Lakes Trail System endures! To honor the democratic process, we’re going to kick things off in style forSummer of Stewardship Trail Days 2014 with National Trails Day up atTwin Lakes! Please join MLTPA, Friends of the Inyo, Tamarack Lodge,Eastern Sierra Nordic Ski Association and the Sierra Conservation Project for a great day of trail work on the Mammoth Lakes Trail System thanks to the Town of Mammoth Lakes, the Inyo National Forest and Mammoth’s own Measure R!
This Saturday morning June 7, 2014, please meet us at Tamarack Lodge – park in the parking lot, meet at the Ski Center Yurt – for a free bagel breakfast thanks to Old New York Deli and an overview of the day’s trail stewardship activities. Volunteers will be working on a general clean up in Twin Lakes, including trail brushing, general maintenance projects, and potentially some work on the mountain bike trails on Panorama Dome. We’re also going to be headed up to the Dragon’s Back Trail to address some trail braiding issues and to reestablish the trail tread which has seen some recent erosion. All volunteers will get an introduction to trail maintenance skills from Friends of the Inyo staff, and those interested in being regular members of the Mammoth Lakes Trail System stewardship team should be sure to show up to get trained up for future projects.
We’ll be meeting for lunch at 12:30 – thanks to Bleu Handcrafted Foods and Sunrise Rotary – and chilled Root Beer thanks to Mammoth Brewing. And thanks to KMMT Radio for providing some priceless airtime to let everybody know what’s happening!
All ages and abilities are welcome, and we love to see families and clubs join in the fun. Please arrive dressed for trail work (long pants, sun protection, sturdy close-toed shoes), and don’t worry if you can’t make it quite at 8:30; we can check you in and send you off to a task in progress just about anytime before 10:30 a.m.
Visit mltpa.org or friendsoftheinyo.org for more information; call (760) 873-6500 or (760) 934 3154; or e-mail ursula@friendsoftheinyo.
Alrighty then – hope everybody got what they wanted on election day – let’s go celebrate National Trails Day!
See you at Tamarack this Saturday at 8:30 AM !
Best

I sincerely hope the Dragons-back/ Bottomless Pit trail gets some attention. Many folks have commented that it’s hard to follow and get lost searching for the pit. Some even get mixed up with a portion of the trail to Horseshoe. Thank you in advance to all the volunteers and organizers!!
