I think all law enforcement in the Eastern Sierra should just pack it up for a few months and just let us all sort it out on our own. If these brutish cops would just leave all of the poor drug users alone, we’d have a much better place to live. I’ve lived in other rural parts of the state with way less law enforcement, and those areas are just amazing….Oh wait, disproportionate amounts of crime compared to the total population- thefts, burglaries, violent crime, impaired driving injuries and deaths, CPS having to ship kids out of county to keep up with all those removed from dangerous homes, gang/cartel related marjiuana grows, meth labs, tweakers and junkies everywhere…….it’s called Calaveras County…..coming soon to Mono County. What Mono County really needs is less cops and more drugs. Yes, that will work out well.
how can you thumbs down a x-mas song
and a partridge in a pair treeeeeeeeeeeee
Why does “Hot Debate. What do you think?” and “Well-loved. Like or Dislike.” keep showing up on so many posts here. Is this a software feature, bug, or deliberate human-induced annoyance?
It’s part of the comment software.

What is a “plethora”?
I looked it up.

This is sad, and it makes me mad to hear people say these people deserve to be in prison because the policy’s and procedures are not leaving less drugs on the street, if you haven’t noticed, they have become easier to make and more potent, drug use should be looked at as human health issue. There is no end in sight with this approach and it waste’s cops time and resources to think it is serving the public any good.
Here I’ll leave out my opinion and give you some data and FACTS!
-In 1971 when Richard Nixon declared the “war on drugs” he asked for 84 million dollars, NOW the national drug control budget requested 25.6 BILLION in 2013, with over a trillion dollars all together in the effort, and what have “we the people” have to show for it?, Except DEBT! Oh yeah and more drugs, easier access, more potency and more users, GOOD JOB People!
-Almost half of the federal prison population is non violent drug users.
-Draconian mandatory sentencing laws can send KIDS to prison for decades.
I know the cops around here would get really bored if they didn’t have drugs to play hide and seek with, but then they would have more time to serve the public, feeding off of the citizens is not service, and I’ll say it again, when you have investors on Wall St. making profits off of incarceration rates you give a money incentive to lock people up.
And don’t push your fear on me, I have real worries like, how in West Virginia we have a huge disaster of people’s water supply being majorly polluted, but since it is a Corporation it’s business as usual, anything else it would be considered terrorism, and thats injustice in a major way, so stop trying to get me to be afraid of people who are struggling with drugs, my generation has a lot more bigger things to worry about…
“Pair Arrested with a Smorgasbord of Drugs”
I guess they did not know of the hassel free Smith Valley cut-off or the eastside
by-pass.
What a parade we have on 395. Keep the clown cars coming.
There’s another hassle free way that’s much simpler – don’t drive impaired, don’t carry a plethora of illegal drugs and don’t break the speed limit.
…They probably already hired a lawyer and planning a “lawsuit” against the County…
Wayne, have a problem with people defending themselves in court?
Girls just want to have fun!
Do these kids really belong in prison?
YES!
Why? Do you feel safer ? At forty thousand a year we ought to be sending them to college.
Yes they do.
Please, people. Innocent until proven guilty. Don’t want to try them here.

Why would SW use “plethora of” in this headline? Sounds like a plethora of hyperbole on your part. Besides the cannabis, there is 2 doses of LSD, 4 doses of mushrooms, 5 doses of “ecstasy”. I don’t consider three substances in personal use amounts a “plethora”. Possible DUI is the only news here and they didn’t arrest for that.
Pedro – I wrote that headline and stand by it, despite some opinions that there was not a “plethora” of drugs.
I count three types of cannabis, LSD, mushrooms and ecstasy – yes, I consider that an abundance of drugs for a trip (pun intended) to Tahoe or wherever.
Hyperbole would be, “Young drug fiends caught with huge amounts of dangerous and illegal drugs that would kill most law-abiding citizens”.
Get back to your nit-picking, Pedro, I’m getting ready for a big 49er win!

What’s Todd going to report about when all these dangerous drugs are considered legal?
He’ll report on what’s news!

Bob Todd….You have to understand, for some,if it’s to be considered a “plethora” of drugs in ones vehicle,it has to be an amount with the weight of a 12 foot overhead camper in order to warrant a search and arrest….or even a reason for LE not look the other way….and it would have to be a large amount of heroin, since some see any other type of dangerous drug as should be legal in their eyes….or a reason,if stopped, detained or arrested,a good chance to file a lawsuit claiming their rights were violated, demanding a bunch of money AND their drugs back….in this story, isn’t it nice, and safe, thinking a couple of young, inexperienced drivers and travelers are going from San Diego to Tahoe or wherever on Hwy.395 with a bunch of hallucinagenic drugs on their person, and probably in their systems, sharing the highway with the rest of us that choose to obey the laws….just great……
I am impressed BK; you possess a rare combination of kindness and wisdom in your editorial skills. Your demarcation line is quite a bit wider than the big news groups. For me, it keeps the story interesting by leaving a lot more of the human side open for discussion but not without the temperance of cruelty.
Perfect!

You went so low so early in life. A sad commentary.
DT, you went so condescending late in life. A sad commentary.
Somewhat debatable, but probably not.
Sounds like my prom night in the 70’s.
Barely enough to get through a Cheech and Chong album collection.
The ” mules” never learn, do they ?
LSD?
Mushrooms?
Naughty, Naughty, Naughty…
Definitely not a plethora as in superabundance, yet a wide and varied selection.
Sorry to see such an innocent LooKING young couple mixed up in so much Trouble.
Moral of the story?
I can smell your burning weed in front of me on 395 @ 70MPH and I don’t like it.
Please wait till you get home to expand and contract your consciousness.
Perhaps a billboard (in Mojave) is in order;
“Buzzed driving fines cost a minimum of $10,000” and…
“395 patrolled by drug sniffing dogs”.
I hope the point of these arrests is to keep INTOXICATED HALLUCINATING people of of the road.
THX.

How come I cannot get the lyrics to White Rabbit out of my head now, heh, heh, heh. Were they on their way to see Alice?
“Welcome to Mono County, Please step out from your vehicle.”
“Do you need a free room at The Mono County Inn?”
“Was your visit a pleasant one?”
“Then we hope to see you again soon!”
