Next Tuesday, Mammoth Mountain CEO Rusty Gregory will present the June Mountain Ski Area operating and marketing plan at a public meeting of the June Lake Citizens Advisory Committee. Community members say they are eager to hear details. Meanwhile, Abigail Ross at June Mountain said around six inches of snow now sits on the slopes at June.
Earlier this month, Mammoth Mountain Administrative Officer, Ron Cohen, had said the company purchased new computers and new communication equipment for June Mountain and had gone to work on lifts and runs to get them ready for testing and certification prior to the re-opening of the Mountain this season. Cohen said the total investment in the past year adds up to around $1 million. Officials had said June Mountain will re-open December 14th, weather permitting.
Cohen had said that this season Mammoth Mountain would take a “much stronger approach to marketing both ski areas.” He said new Chief Marketing Officer, Erik Forsell, has June Mountain on his short list of priorities.
Ski Area officials talk about an emphasis on family friendliness at June Mountain. Abigail Ross pointed to the new policy of kids 12 and under skiing for free and other special deals. Rusty Gregory will talk details at that community meeting Tuesday, November 5th at 7pm at the Community Center.
And, the day after that meeting, Gregory and CAO Ron Cohen will sit down with Mammoth Mayor Rick Wood, Councilwoman Jo Bacon and Town Manager Dan Holler for a meeting of the Ski Area/ Town of Mammoth Liaison Committee.
On their agenda – Economic Development, Zoning Code Update, Fee review, TBID implementation and other items. This meeting takes place Wednesday, November 6th, from 2:30pm to 4:30pm in the Town’s Main Conference Room.

rusty didnt have to do anything with june mtn but he is so be happy
the whole thing is a fustercluck
Now that’s funny! If Mr. Gregory was the kind of community leader that we could trust, your comment would be worthy of consideration. I will admit that I am rooting for him to come through with his promises so that we may begin to trust him and not be so negative.
Example: We’ve heard this from both Mr. Gregory and Mr. Cohen:
Cohen had said that this season Mammoth Mountain would take a “much stronger approach to marketing both ski areas.” He said new Chief Marketing Officer, Erik Forsell, has June Mountain on his short list of priorities.
But we have not seen any example of this happening.
people should be thankful that rusty is doing what doing and quit being so negative !!
It seems Rusty doesn’t know how to step back, but he sure knows how to shift & shuffle! We all knew that his “stepping down” was just that: smoke & mirrors. A common phrase of his always seems to ring true in the end: “Believe what I do, not what I say.” It will be tragic if June shuts down after the holidays, especially if there is plenty of snow. We’ll just have to wait and see…
He’s back? That is not a very “behind the scenes” or “stepping back” approach like he stated this summer. So kind folks of June Lake and June Mt lovers, just remember who you are talking to and what he says. He is the man behind the curtain and he is bringing all his well used smoke and mirrors.
That is a nasty rumor. What about the college pass that they said won’t be good for Mammoth once June closes?
I will for sure ask Rusty at the meeting though.
I am married to someone who is involved in the June Chamber .One of the Chamber members said he was talking to Ed Roski [the new owner of the Rodeo Grounds]. Ed told him that in a conversation w/ Mr Gregory, he stated that June Mountains plan is to open and stay open until after the Christmas holiday. Then close. Is this the reason for the ‘local season pass'[the early sale Nov 7th] deal is all about? Because they[MMSA] are saying that the pass will be good at MMSA when June closes. Hopefully someone will ask Rusty about this. I have NO desire to ski Mammoth. Those who tell don’t know, those who know don’t tell.
So very happy that June Mountain will re-open this season. It was a shame that it closed last season and I missed skiing there. Hoping that the June Lake village will host that wonderful snow sculpture event again this year!
Btw, June Mountain changed their opening date to Friday, December 13th! 🙂
JM passes on sale 11/11/13.
