Temperatures climb rapidly in a closed car – dangerous for adults, kids and pets.
Our weather forecaster, Dennis Mattinson, along with many other prognosticators, warn of continued very hot weather – hotter than normal. Southern California areas have topped the 105 degree mark as has the Owens Valley. Mono County reaches for 90 degrees. Heat warnings continue with strong advice for people and their pets.
The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Southern California Edison have issued strong requests that customers save energy whenever possible. The power grid is reaching to keep California cool. DWP has asked customers to keep their thermostats at 78 degrees and use appliances during evening hours.
At the same time, people are urged to protect themselves from the intense heat. Stay indoors when possible and drink lots of fluids. Wear hats and don’t become overheated. Guard yourself against too much physical activity in the heat.
The same advice goes for pets. Do not leave them in the car when you go to the store. Temperatures can shoot up rapidly and put your animal in serious danger. Goes without saying – do not leave children in a hot car.
The dangers are overheating and dehydration. Forecasters say we might get a break in the abnormally high temperatures by mid-next week.

Hey Benett, what do the police suggest you do if you see a dog or kid in a hot car? Is 911 o.k.?
I called Bishop Police this week (760-873-5866) when I saw a small dog in a closed car. They sent a unit over to take care of it.
I would think you could call either Bishop or Mammoth Police with this. It is a matter of life or death for a pet.

it only takes a few minutes for your beloved friend to go into cardiac arrest. Think of it this way, how would YOU like to be stuck in a 100 to 120 degree box with a fur coat on?
