Inyo Court will sentence two defendants in July on sex crimes – Ronald Everett Barr and George William Chezum.
In an earlier jury trial, Barr was found guilty on one misdemeanor count of annoying or molesting a child. The jury could not reach verdicts on three other charges – two felony counts of oral copulation and misdemeanor sexual battery. A mistrial was declared on those three counts.
The jury found George Chezum guilty on two misdemeanor counts of sexual battery and one misdemeanor count of annoying or molesting a child. The jury could not reach a verdict on one sexual battery charge, and the court declared a mistrial on that charge.
The District Attorney struck out on another criminal case. Derrin Griffin was traveling to Lee Vining in past months for a bachelor party. He was stopped by officers who found two small bottles of medical marijuana and cannabis.
Griffin testified that he was a care provider for his wife and in possession of those drugs due to her medical condition. The wife testified to those facts.
Griffin faced misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana, which was dismissed, and misdemeanor possession of concentrated cannabis. After a two day trial and little more than an hour of deliberation, the jury found Griffin not guilty.

Useless Marijuana trail cost INYO how much? Bennett, Who was the DA?
I was told that Deputy DA Kevin Christianson prosecuted the case. I do not know who set the policy to proceed.

…Cat……..GREAT…Here is a story about alleged child molestation, sexual battery, and other charges against two adults and a child…which, apparently ended with nothing more than some misdemeanor “slap on the wrist ” convictions against these two “men”……and you are upset about the trailing “marijuana” story and the money Inyo County wasted on it ?
Wayne just wanted to let you know that in one of the molestation cases, they were found guilty of two felonies . just thought you would like to know that at least one was found guilty like he should’ve been.
