Caltrans Traffic Advisory for the Week of 8/31/2026 to 9/4/2026

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of August 31– September 4.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

·    Silver Queen Electrical Work – On State Route 14 from Silver Queen Road to Purdy Avenue, the northbound shoulder will close while Maintenance crews perform electrical work Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.        

·    Kern County Striping Work – On State Route 58 the following exits will close while crews stripe the pavement:

·    148 at Tucker Road

·    149 at Mill Street

·    152 at Tehachapi Blvd

·    199 at Boron Avenue

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will also be intermittent night work. Detours are available, and drivers may experience brief delays.

Mono County

·    Mono County Striping Work – On U.S. 395 near Mammoth Lakes, the off-ramp to State Route 203 will close intermittently while crews repair thermoplastic arrows Wednesday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Striping work is also scheduled from Sawmill Cutoff Road to the Crestview Safety Roadside Rest Area and the northbound off-ramp to S. Landing Road near Crowley. Detours will be available, and drivers may experience brief delays. 

·    Silver Lake Utility Work – On State Route 158 near the Silver Lake Campground, utility crews will replace poles on Tuesday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

·    Grant Lake Traffic Breaks – On State Route 158 from the Silver Lake Campground to Grant Lake Road, there will be intermittent traffic breaks on Wednesday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

·    Sonora Pass Shoulder Work – On State Route 108 (Sonora Pass) from the winter closure gate near the Marine Corps Mountain Warfare Training Center to the Tuolumne County line, there will be one-way traffic control while crews perform shoulder work in both directions Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Drivers may experience 5-minute delays.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

·    Pearsonville Sign Work – On U.S. 395 from Brown Road to the Kern/Inyo county line, the shoulders in both directions will remain closed while crews continue to replace signs Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Inyo County

·    Bishop Pavement Project – Beginning Monday, August 31, there will be no further long-term closures on U.S. 395. There will be intermittent lane and intersection closures while crews prepare U.S. 395 and State Route 168 (W. Line Street) for paving, which is scheduled for September 13. The speed limit is reduced to 25 mph from Jay Street to Wye Road. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    City of Bishop Water Main Replacement Project – On State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) from Fowler Street to U.S. 395, the road remains fully closed while the City of Bishop replaces its water line. Work is scheduled 24 hours a day Monday through Friday. Detours are available.

·    Manzanar Pavement Project – All traffic has shifted to the northbound lanes of U.S. 395 between Fort Independence and the northern end of Independence while crews rehabilitate the pavement on the southbound lanes. Crews are backing the shoulders, placing delineators, and striping the new pavement of U.S. 395 from the southern end of Independence to 2.5 miles south of the Manzanar National Historic Site. The outside lane and shoulders in both directions within Independence are closed while crews build pedestrian bulbouts. Turns onto several cross streets are unavailable from U.S. 395. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and 25 mph within Independence. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience delays.

·    Lone Pine Sidewalks Project – On U.S. 395 in Lone Pine, the outside lane and shoulders are closed while crews build sidewalks and replace drainage infrastructure in the following locations:

·    Southbound from Teya Road to Inyo Street,

·    Northbound from Locust Road to E. Lubken Avenue.

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Mono County

·    Mammoth Lakes Tree Work – On State Route 203 from Forest Trail to the Madera/Mono county line near the Mammoth Mountain Lodge, crews will continue to trim trees Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

·    Bridgeport Pavement Work – On State Route 182 from the junction of U.S. 395 to approximately 1.5 miles north of the Bridgeport Reservoir dam, crews continue to grind and rehabilitate the pavement Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers will experience 5-minute delays.

The Manzanar Pavement Project received $44.64 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. The Manzanar Pavement Project received $5.78 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
