Traffic Advisory for the Week of 8/10/2026 to 8/14/2026

EASTERN KERN, INYO, and MONO COUNTIES – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) announces the following project work and traffic impacts for the week of August 10 – August 14.

Work schedules are subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials, and/or construction-related issues.

New Traffic Impacts

Mono County

·    Mammoth 203 Guardrail Repair – On U.S. 395 northbound at the State Route 203 junction to Mammoth Lakes the right lane and shoulder closure while crews repair guardrail on Monday from 7:00 am to 3:30 am. Drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

·    Sawmill Tree Work – On State Route 203 from Sawmill Road to Sawmill Cutoff Road, crews will continue to trim trees Monday through Wednesday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Ongoing Traffic Impacts

Eastern Kern County

·    Kern 395 Sign Work – On U.S. 395 from Brown Road to the Kern/Inyo County Line both shoulders will close while crews replace signs Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Inyo County

·    Bishop Pavement Project – Academy and Church Street, and the southbound outside lane of U.S. 395 between Academy Avenue and Line Street is opening Friday, August 7. Access from U.S. 395 to Lagoon Street will be fully closed, and southbound 395 outside from Line Street to Lagoon Street will be closed for drainage and sidewalk work. Lagoon Street closure is anticipated to re-open on Friday, August 14. Access from U.S. 395 to Mac Iver Street will be fully closed for sidewalk work. Businesses on Mac Iver and Lagoon may be accessed via detours. Expect intermittent closures of outside lanes of northbound and southbound U.S. 395 throughout the week. Caltrans work requiring closure of S.R. 168 W (W. Line Street) has been completed. The speed limit is reduced to 35 mph from See Vee Lane to Wye Road. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

·    City of Bishop Water Main Replacement Project – On State Route 168 W (W. Line Street) from Warren Street to U.S. 395, the road will fully close while the City of Bishop replaces its water line. Work is scheduled 24 hours a day Sunday, August 9 through Friday. Detours are available.

·    Manzanar Pavement Project – On U.S. 395 from Fish Hatchery Road near the Fort Independence Reservation to 2.5 miles south of the Manzanar National Historic Site, crews are rehabilitating the pavement, constructing pedestrian bulbouts in Independence, and installing a flashing pedestrian beacon with a mast arm at Market Street. All traffic has switched to the new northbound lanes using a temporary crossover about two miles south of Manzanar while crews rehabilitate the southbound lanes. One lane in each direction is closed in town and turns onto several cross streets are unavailable from U.S. 395. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph and 25 mph within Independence. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm. Drivers may experience delays.

·    Lone Pine Sidewalks Project – On U.S. 395 in Lone Pine, the outside lane and shoulders in both directions are closed while crews build sidewalks and replace drainage infrastructure in the following locations:

·    From Teya Road to Inyo Street,

·    From Locust Road to E. Lubken Avenue.

Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. Drivers may experience brief delays.

Mono County

·    Bridgeport Pavement Work – On State Route 182 from the junction of U.S. 395 to approximately 1.5 miles north of the Bridgeport Reservoir dam, crews will grind and rehabilitate the pavement Monday through Saturday, August 8 from 6:00 am to 5:00 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers will experience 5-minute delays.

·    Mammoth Lakes Tree Work – On State Route 203 from Forest Trail to U.S. 395, crews will continue to trim trees Monday through Thursday from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm. There will be one-way traffic control, and drivers may experience 10-minute delays.

Eastern Kern County

·    Kern River Valley Sign Work – On State Route 178 W from Kelso Valley Road to State Route 14 near Inyokern, there will be intermittent one-way traffic as crews continue to install new traffic signs Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

The Manzanar Pavement Project received $44.64 million and the Bishop Pavement Project received $18.36 million from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act of 2021 (IIJA) – also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Under IIJA, California will receive an estimated $41.9 billion over five years. IIJA provides significant funding to rebuild California’s transportation system, including support to improve roadways, bridges, freight projects, public transportation, infrastructure safety enhancements, and to increase infrastructure resiliency to the impacts of severe weather and climate change. The Manzanar Pavement Project received $5.78 million, the Bishop Pavement Project received $2.4 million, and the Rock Creek Pavement Project received $2.1 million from Senate Bill (SB) 1. SB 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
